No educated wings fan thought we made a mistake. It is a win win. ASP might be the next big offensive defenseman, a part of an incoming generation. We need long term cap space for Raymond, Seider, Ed, etc. not Hronek

Trading Hronek when he did for what he got was clearly a win for Yzerman, but that doesn’t mean it was a loss for Vancouver. The final verdict for them is still very much up in the air. Vancouver has good moves left. They can force arbitration, take Hronek for 1 season at the arbitrated rate, then trade him at the deadline before he walks to UFA next offseason (or go for a cup if they think they have a legit shot.) Hronek does seem Hell-bent on becoming a UFA as soon as possible to hit the open market. That’s no surprise to anyone that’s been paying attention; he’s obviously been pretty open and honest about his intentions, which is why Yzerman felt he had to move him in the first place.

Hronek isn't worth going to arbitration for with the numbers being presented and he would probably be a much better fit on another team anyways. Trade his rights and sign a long-term mainstay instead.

It's not rocket science. Yzerman already negotiated a RFA contract with Hronek and knew what was coming. He got a sweetheart offer from Vancouver and said 'DEAL'. Steve Yzerman doesn't like RFA contract holdouts and in turn holds that against the player forever. Joe Veleno will be the next player out for that very same reason. Berggren too. If you are a RFA and are NOT a superstar you do not hold out for more money from Steve Yzerman. You take what you're offered. Argue my point all you want but it is the truth.

you cant compare a contract signed 4 years ago with a contract signed today, worse players can earn more money when you sign a contract at a later point, cap is going to start going up again, players will start to get more and quinn hughes will be underpaid till his contract ends.... (edit: no i wouldnt pay him as much as he wants on the wings)

I called this when hronek was traded here. I knew he was going to cost a fortune when he needed a new contract . Thats why the canucks should have pushed hronek to lead his own line. Now we have a situation

Most of Van thought this was a weird trade. We could have drafted Wallinder and ASP. Well at least we got some playoff experience and we’ll recoup some assets by trading Hronek.

Hronek had a 2021-22 transitional year before being traded (-29). Even though his point totals increased year by year at the trade year he caught on and drastically increased his value with a + 8 before TDL . But SY was not ready to wait and see on the final season if Hronek had anther down year and then trying to resign him to an unknown long term future. After the trade I feel ASP is a better skater and more dynamic than Hronek at this stage of development.

Hronek is playing with Quinn Hughes. He might want to keep playing with Quinn Hughes. His best bet might be to cash in on term and try to demand 6 or 7 years.

Hronek was a second pair defenseman with the Wings. No way were the Wings going to pay him $8 million. That money was for Seider or Raymond. Fandom had no knowledge of what Hronek wanted, to sign a contract. If the fans had known, they'd have agreed with the trade.

even 6.5 aav for hronek is terrrible this guy had was a point per game player for the first half of the season then became like a 0.1 pt per game player in the biggest in season dropoff for a player ive ever seen...pts isnt everything for a d but for hronek it is if he wants this level of money

Yeah but that's the short sighted thinking that keeps franchises in the mushy middle. what's better, a 1st rd sweep in 2024 then losing that piece, or years and years of a high ceiling stud Dman who aligns with the real compete window of the team
