Did anyone else notice pretty much all the signings were 1-2 years. Also when are the prospects expected to get called up. 1-2 years. If the roster is full of 5-8 year contracts how would there be any roster space for the young guys to play.

@@Elliesbow Last off season they tried the free agent signings to improve the team, and let their prospects develop. So now it is time for some of those prospects to move up and fill spots on the team The FA they did sign, are mostly back up, players who back up the first liners. They can still make trades. Maybe even to just add draft picks. They now have four goalie, plus Cossa at GR. Other player moves are possible.

I’m fine with what Yzerman is doing. Nashville was in a much better position at the start of today, before they even signed anybody. They have a Norris winner, Vezina candidate, and good overall depth. We have none of that. They’re in a better better spot and should be going all-in. With the Wings, I don’t think we’re quite there to be making huge moves.

As of right now, this is real uncomfortable… gonna hang tight until we see what’s fully what here. I still don’t like the journey… hopefully the destination is much better.

I hate how critical people are of Stevey not getting Stamko or JM...either way he gets the short end of the stick, overpay and people complain or don't offer market value but the guy don't want anything to do w Detroit so we still miss out...damned if you do, damned if you dont

well atleast Yzerman didnt sign Jonas Gustavsson, so he's got that going for him, cuz i was a little worried when i heard we signed gustafsson, and that shows you how much confidence i have in him as a GM

what was Wings downfall last season? it was defense... Seider is not enough to carry 3 pairings of defense, No one is. Seider is monster defensively but he was all we had. Walman was slightly better than a liability defensively but had a slight offensive upside with that big shot he had. We didn't need the offense, we needed a better defense. Gus gives us that defense albeit not a defensive powerhouse it gives us more depth on the second and third pairing, and with Edvinsson and probably Johansson coming up next season that gives us a bigger boost defensively. Keeping the offense intact theoretically keeps our PPG and goals right around the same while decreasing our GA is a huge uptick in games won. that's how it works on paper, now we have to see it on the ice.

I do agree with the majority of people saying Stevey isnt doing enough but at the same time why would anyone want to come here? What can we really offer to a player aside from ice time? The years of bringing in Brett Hull and Luc Robitaille are looooong gone!...only players we have a chance at are players that grew up here and Trouba is proof that isnt even enough!

Yzerman is challenging the coach this upcoming season by not signing flashy forwards. He already stated in his exit interview that he demands the coaching staff create a defensive minded team. Now they have a stack of defensemen and a stack of goaltenders to choose from. The coaches need to create a system that works with what they have to play better D or else good ole 'newsy' is going to be 'goodbyesy'.

Underwhelming is a word to describe today. Did sign one player under 30 years old (Lagesson) so that was a + bonus. If Detroit were drafting really well in Day 2 and were busting at the seams with great prospects then yeah this all makes sense. They are not drafting well in Day 2.

Erik Gustafsson is better than Walman, these new Redwings fans are so dumb, Walman is not good, he turns over the puck constantly in his own zone, gets beat all the time 1v1 and takes stupid penalties, Gustaffson is a massive upgrade over him and is a defensive upgrade over Ghost. Stop over reacting if you like teams over spending go support them. Stevie Y is cooking let him cook.

I keep having people watch the replay of McDavids spin pass in the blowout last year. Seider played him perfectly while walman just watched as his guy got open and scored. He was terrible last year.

Trouba's wife is in doctor residency in NYC. So she has another year to go. He apparently is nixing any trades ideas. As for Eiersman, many teams were skeptical he was a team player, only shot the puck instead of making smart system play.

Because Steve is big on three goalies. Just think of him as a better Reimer. Also, Eiserman is a one dimensional player. Steve made it clear he wants to make this team a tough and physical team in the future. Nygård fits that bill to a tee. Eiserman really only fit one team and that was NYI because they need somebody who can score.
