In the final installment of Tyler Hoover's junkyard crawl we check out a W123 Series Mercedes Diesel with a bit of a rust problem. Watch and find out what made this car so appealing to first time American buyers and why its referred to as the "million mile Mercedes".
Once again a huge thank you to Tyler for helping out Steve during his health struggles!
Be sure to check out Tyler's channel ‪@HooviesGarage‬ and of course, like, comment, and subscribe to this channel, every view helps!

Hey Mr. Hoover, it's a shame that this will be your last of your takes on Junkyard Crawl on this channel. I really appreciate you helping out the channel and I feel sorry for Steve. I hope he gets better soon and the poor guy has really dropped out of the scene these past few months. My mornings lately have been kind of empty without the Junkyard Crawls, so once again, thanks for your efforts Tyler!

Yes, 1980 because the emission decal next to it says that it complies with US standards for the 1980 model year and the VIN isn't 17 digits. Late 1979 could still be a 1979 with some manufacturers, but not in this case based on the emission decal. Possible DB735 Astral Silver exterior paint. Model year 1981 would bring 17-digit VIN numbers, a system we still have today. The could be made in Bremen, Stuttgart or Sindelfingen, Germany. With the VIN, you win: 123 for W123 chassis, 130 for 300D, 1 for left hand drive, assembled in Germany, 2 for automatic transmission and the rest is the production sequence.

I currently own a 1983 MB 240D with a four speed manual transmission. It is a gutless four banger with no turbo. There is very little rust and that's why it's still on the road. It has not quite 300,000 miles on it and everything on it works, except the A/C which only needs its annual charge. Even the analog clock still works! The Junkyard Crawl is one of my favorites. Thank you for filling in for Steve and I pray for his recovery.

K-Jetronic is by far and away the most reliable fuel delivery system ever devised, same for the In-line Bosch MFI pumps used on the W123/W124 Diesels. I even have it rigged up to my Citroën SM, as it has never failed me at all.
