I thought Twice Upon A Time was a great send off for him, it featured so many callbacks to some of his best scores since 2005, with Thirteen even having The Ninth and Tenth Doctor's Theme during her introduction.

There has been no official confirmation, so they are rumours.

Gutted he’s leaving!!

It's a mass audience, mass-appeal show which unfortunately means that there is a percentage of people watching who have difficulty in maintaining their concentration to the end of a Tweet or have difficulty comprehending the complex coding of a traffic light sequence.

I actually love that both the first shot we ever see of him as the Doctor _AND THE LAST SHOT WE EVER SEE OF HIM AS THE DOCTOR_ are both of his eyebrows. Literally, the attack eyebrows are the bookend of his run, perfectly encapsulating who his incarnation was.

His ego is bigger than the TARDIS.

Since JNT, the hallmark of being Doctor Who's producer is an outsized ego. Frankly, it's kinda necessary to navigate some of the waters of fandom, but it's absolutely there, and huge. RTD and Moffat just have a knack for self-deprecation in public.

It's not the negative side of random, it's the negative side of certain fans who shout loudly that "this isn't proper Doctor Who" simply because it doesn't fit in with their headcanon. I mean, I have problems with certain DW episodes (Kill The Moon and Forest of the Night in particular), as do most fans, but I don't go screaming my head off and being obnoxiously unpleasant simply because I have problems with them.

The Cypher Im okay with that. What i mean are the fans that say what they think with no filter, like insulting the writers, calling them horrible names and stuff like that. Its wrong. Doctor Who’s message (especially this last season) is to be kind. Yes, express what you feel, but always in a reasonable way. Not being rude to everyone.

Is not this fandom - it's any fandom, every fandom! Look at football fans. They're not backward in coming forward if their favourite team perform badly - there's fights on the streets if it's a bad game. Social media gives access to everyone else so we get to view the whole gamut of human opinion - by writing stuff down online we see the inner workings and raw frustration or delight of a person so when they express something it doesn't come out how it would if they were to do it in person.

"Be kind" or "don't be rude" is not the message of Doctor Who o.O I mean, I just enjoy Capaldi or Pertwee insulting someone or being arrogant just like Tom B. There is no "greater message" behind doctor who, it's just about fun and adventures in space & time.

I think the Chris we hear Moffat mention in the clip from next week is Chibnall rather than "Ecclescake"

Hear hear! The Eleventh Hour is gorgeous. The show is so well-shot, I envy Chibnall having this kind of cinematography as a baseline to get to improve on.

I HATED the overuse of bright colored lights to make everything look 'sci fi', it was so lazy. i swear it got to the point where a sontaran two parter was just 90% pink. ugh.

I wouldn't say the show will never end, I mean, what if something bad happens and we all die? Who's left to make all the Doctor Who? I think the show will probably last as long as humanity does though or at the very least, longer than I'll ever live, even if there is an occasional hiatus while the show waits for a new ideas and new talent to revive it.

I think Moffat definitely did a lot of good for the show, but also a lot of bad that shouldn't be overlooked. Just saying what I think here, you don't need to agree with it. I think Moffat started out very strong, but over the course of series 6 and 7 a lot of his episodes felt disappointing to me. Capaldi's era felt like it was gradually getting better, and I think series 10 was the one that convinced me Moffat still knew what he was doing. He's written genius things, but the occasional misstep happened a little more occasionally for him than for RTD, if you ask me. In general I prefer RTD's era (not denying it had its mistakes back then, too, but less frequent in my opinion) and I think Moffat has made a lot of mistakes, but to call everything he's left behind on DW horrible is wrong, too. He didn't kill the show, but sometimes he did come a little closer to that than what I felt comfortable with.

+pulk pulkman's Strictly speaking I don't disagree with your first line but using using good and bad is too black and white for me. I would say that he did a number of things that a lot of people didn't like, not that it was bad, because obviously a lot of people also loved those same things. Obviously, it comes down to the whole personal preference thing. Season 6 and 7 weren't helped by the breaks (which we know he had no control over), similar to how the last big writer's strike affected all the US shows a few years back. As it's in that same area I found it very interesting to see hear Moffat say how the War Doctor came to be and how different it is to what a lot of people assumed, i.e. increasing the incarnations so he could deal with the 'final' regen. That's the first time I've heard him mentioned that much detail and I can understand now why it happened, one thing inevitably led to another. I think Moffat and RTD had about the same number of missteps and mistakes, just very different ones. They both tried to do things (and add things) differently to the classic era, of which some worked and some didn't. Overall, both did an excellent job with my preference going towards Moffat. The yearly casting change was one of the negatives about RTD's era, along with the non-regen regen. For Moffat, I think his low points were relying on the reset button too much for both plot and characters (although I understand his reason behind it) and creating a couple of season long teasers/questions that didn't really go anywhere, even if I liked the 'answer' they could have been so much more.

The problem isn't that he sometimes writes really good stuff, it is that he doesn't know how to run a show

Yes, he did miss a few times but then so has every showrunner and I'm sure Chibbers will too. I found it very interesting to finally hear the full details of how the War Doctor came about. It's very different to what a number of 'fans thought, i.e. that it was deliberately to get to the 'final' regen. This just goes to show that it was more about necessity and one choice leading logically to the next.

The absence of Chris Eccleston and the addition of the War Doctor created a forced continuity, but I believe Moffat managed to piece it all together magnificently. He had his bad days, but he also had days that were far better than just good. Oh well... :)

Well, I think the whole Doctor Dying Arc from Series 6, which Moffat remade from this, actually was/sounds more interesting

+Novuh X Agreed. There are many thing they've got right over the years but the one that always stands out the most is the casting. For me, it's Tom Baker and Matt Smith as my faves but they are all great. As the actors often say, their favourite Doctor is The Doctor.

They still haven't bothered to post it. I was looking forward to having some sort of insight as to what the heck happened behind the past few series but, oh well.

Is it ever gonna happen, we're nearly in April and it says part two of three.

+The Cypher Yes, to him it was just a job that he did for RTD, he wasn't a big fan and had only seen a few episodes. Personally, I think part of it as well was that he wasn't prepared in anyway for the reaction it got. He didn't want the extra spotlights on him. Then there was all the behind the scenes stuff going on as well. It also didn't help that after his run finished, and he was doing other work, every interviewer would bring up DW instead of his current project. He was polite about it (as he always is) but clearly wasn't interested which some took as rudeness.

He actually put himself forward for the role. He wasn't asked, he requested that he be considered, mainly because he liked RTD's work, and because he wanted to try a lighter role. In a radio interview he admitted that he clashed with certain (unnamed) individuals on the show, which is why he left so soon. He made a point of not naming them, because they weren't there to give their version of events. Shows what an incredibly courteous man he is. Such a shame it ended up that way though. Would have been lovely to have had him longer.

I would've love to see Chris and Paul Mcgann in the 50th too, with a few spoken lines. The regeneration from war doctor should've be been done properly.

Of course it didn't help that at conventions he acted smug about his own writing, put down the classic series, ignored questions about his favorite classic series alien or monster and put as his favorite monster, his own creations, the Angels. He's the worst. Worst fan, worst show runner, worst DW writer under his own era. Under RTD, suspiciously, he wrote good stories.
