Sunstone was a fusion of a rose quartz and a garnet. Steven's mother reformed as a rose quartz before she gave birth to steven, so naturally steven got the gem "programming" if you can say, of a rose quartz, so by default steven counts as a rose quartz in his fusions, though having the powerscale of a diamond.

@@karabolefa9487 dude, rose just flipped her gem and reformed to look like a rose quarts, but in fact was always a diamond, with diamond powers and diamond fusions. steven is counted as a diamond, a gem cannot "change" their "programming" to another gem, not even a diamond can do that. they can be undercover and change their appearance whole, rotating the gem to its another side to look like whoever they undercover as. sunstone is in fact a fusion between a diamond, ruby and a sapphire. i dont think a rose quartz, garnet fusion, amethyst and pearl can make such a powerful fusion(obsidian), and you know its not because of how many gems are in the fusion, because in example we have fluorite. thank you for your reply though, i appreciate you wanting to help me know better.

@@markfaites Yes exactly that's the point , she reformed to look like a rose quartz. If she was still in her diamond form then changed to rose quartz without being poofed , then her fusions would include her being a diamond. That's why they introduced the concept of gems taking time to choose their forms after being poofed. Like Amethyst that one episode she just QUICKLY reforms in the form of Pearl but she didn't really think it through so she was not as much of a replica of Pearl as she mockingly intended to be. Plus we learn that if they shape-shifting into other things they can't hold their form for long , but then like I said if they reform thinking carefully if trying to resemble that form then they can be it. For example during corruption, we saw that if you choose to fuse with a corrupted gem, it does not get its original shape back but rather the one it was already corrupted in, so when you fuse with it, your fusion will resemble the corrupted gems fusion. Or if Garnet shape-shifts into Steven and fuses with him, it's still gonna be Sunsrome because she was not poofed and reformed into Steven she just held his form for however long she could then fused with him. But if she poofed then took sometime to reform as Steven, and they fused it would be a Steven with a different color but still have Sunstones ability because at the core they area combination of Garnet and Steven's ABILITIES. So it makes sense Sunstone has Steven(a diamond) and Garnets strength, and the gemstones last reformation of what it remembers itself to be as a rose quartz.
