Steven Wilson will go down as one of the greatest musicians of the modern era

Speaking of Ninet Tayeb, when Steven was on tour for Hand. Cannot. Erase., he lost his voice to the point when he needed Ninet to come up and sing for the entire concert. The thing is, the only song she only knew Routine, but the band was playing the entire album. So what happened? The theatre crew brought in a music book stand with the lyrics and the notes, and she killed it. She didn't recite the songs either. One of the craziest concerts I've been to.

I was front row at the Beacon with my nephew. When I learned that Steven was unable to sing, I was initially bummed. At the end of the show, I realized that I had just witnessed something extraordinarily special and unique. It’s a memory that I treasure.

I was at that show too. Given the circumstances, that might be one of the most incredible shows I’ve seen ever. Though his most recent show in NYC (I attended the 2nd night at PlayStation Theater) was pretty incredible too! ;)

A sincere apology for all those who don't recognize your brilliance, Steven Wilson. Fear puts people back to sleep, and your thought provoking music is a standalone awakening which, for those who don't want to see, is unwelcome. But music saves lives, and your music saved mine. For me, you can do no wrong. I appreciate every venture intro the abstract as much as every progression back to the middle. Thank you. I'm grateful you exist, because if you didn't, I'm pretty sure I wouldn't either. I'm a musician too, tho I could never be as good.. You're my hero, Steven Wilson.

I agree totally with you Andi, he is so underappreciated. My daughter likes Steven Wilson but I haven't got my wife to like him yet. I am not giving up. However, my biggest disappointment was going to Nashville and see the what I thought was a small turnout for the "music city". Most of the fans I talked to were from out of state including myself. What is wrong with you Tennesseans??

I fell in love with SW at the first time I heard. It didn't take while to start to research about his projects and start to think about produce music. Good music. Because of him I started to study and hear a lot of other stuff. I started to know music from another perspective. I would like to thank him for all of those things.

The same with me, and I remember how my mind just blows. And even today, when I stop everything to hear, I got those same feelings and others, new feelings, new sensations. It makes me think how to really pass on a track all of this touching thing.
@dreamygirllove22476 жыл бұрын
+Renata Salles how do you mean pass on a track, I recognize those lyrics they are from Glass Arm Shattering on Deadwing.
@renatasalles71126 жыл бұрын
Sorry, It was confusing. I was talking about how he transfer this to music. Those feelings, meanings, philosophy.. not just by lyrics, but with the whole instrumental part too. How he directs it. That is the point.

You know... SW music always had a stunning MUSICAL depth. Music, that is very interesting for musicians, too. Lyrics have least to do with music. And the new album bores me to death. Musically. No lyrics on this planet could be able to rescue boring, uninspired standard 4/4 pop music. I'm not disappointed. I'm ANGRY!!! :-(

No, I'm rock fan and hoped for a rock album with high class intrumental goodness. What we got: radio music. Don't get me wrong! I'm a huge SW fan. But that doesn't mean, that I love everything he comes up with on principle. Like obviously maaaaaaany others do. Stay objective, people! This is what Hand.Cannot.Erase would shit out.
@rockingnick6 жыл бұрын
M D well I am a big Steven Wilson fan at the same time I'm a big fan of doing things different and he did try. Most songs did grow on me although as an I Dian the video for permanating is cheesy on every level. But the production on the album is really good. And yes nowhere now is preaching in some aspects but art is meant to observed from certain perspectives you may like or not like it.

This album is growing on me with every listen. Methodically written and produced, it demands the listener to give it the time it deserves for the layers to reveal themselves. The joy of finding a new sound you might have missed earlier is sublime! This video is sweet and helps to appreciate the record even more by giving the listener more clarity on the intent behind composing each track.

The near 50 year old Steven Wilson is bringing such profound vision to his lyrics. Most of us feel we "get it" out there but listening to him and his lyrics gave me even more focus on the planet we live on. As this man matures into an old man it will be interesting to hear what he has to say.

I came aboard after hearing Blackest Eyes on Radio Paradise. Since then I've devoured every PT and Steve Wilson album I could find. I'm also a bit of a songwriter and if I could actually adjust my melodies, they would sound a lot like Steve's stuff. Over time, I've found that if I get into the groove of creating music, it becomes obvious that I'm the channel and the music comes from elsewhere. I can only try to direct it, like pointing a flashlight towards a previously dark area. This may or may not be the case with Steve but I can say that I've never in my life found someone who can bring forth so many great musical creations. Art and music are physical expressions of the soul. And he's found a way to channel it all into our minds. I'm with him for the long haul.

Obviously this album is poppier and more accessible than his previous offerings, but .... just, wow. It's so personal. Since the "Raven..." on each album Steven bestows us with a song that has very emotional lyric theme and a very powerful solo, that just makes me so emotional, vulnerable and brings me to tears in a very beautiful and compassive way. 'Drive Home', 'Routine' and now 'Refuge. 'To The Bone' is such a masterpiece and Steven is definitely one of the greatest artists among all of the musicians in the world across various genres. Thank You, sir!

To the Bone is my favourite Steven Wilson solo album to date noting that I love them all and that includes the shorter EPs. Question: Did Wilson meet his wife in the period when he was writing material for To the Bone? Hard to pick a favourite.... Detonation with guest Slovak guitarist David Kollar would be it.

Some of Steven's comments call to mind Queensryche's Operation:Mindcrime and Pink Floyd's The Wall. And perhaps even Peter Gabriel / Kate Bush (Don't Give Up). I"m surprised no one actually followed through with the Mindcrime plot in real life, like the movie Taxi Driver. THANK YOU Steven for putting the in-the-studio / making-of albums out on youtube. I could watch them all day, chin-in-hands. And thank you for being at the fore of putting out your music on 5.1 Blue-Ray and for being honest in your music. I wish more would follow suit. Floyd's Animals is to come out later this year in 5.1 .

Do we, really? I think Wilson's solo material is way better than The Incident. And also, Porcupine Tree never came to play live in my country, but I've seen Steven twice now, so. Can't say I really miss PT in any sense.
@rockingnick6 жыл бұрын
Deathshuck porcupine tree was amazing in the genere it existed in. Now Steven really works outside the box. Although the incident is one of the most supreme pieces of music created. But yes indeed porcupine tree was getting stale, but a small break is sufficient and he doesn't debunk getting back together. Although in conclusion HCE is his best production so far, I like insurgentes as well.
@SpartanLaserCanon6 жыл бұрын
I don't really as some of the music he released under his name has sounded like Porcupine Tree. It is interesting how this is more poppy than his other albums and he did not release it with Blackflield because that band has released a lot of indie-ish and poppy stuff.
