Problem with Conan's philosophy is that he is part of a micro percentage of people who achieve the level of success, and happiness and fulfillment as he has. Majority of people don't recover, or only partially recover from major set backs in their lives.. whether they embrace them and can accept them or not, the reality is that it isn't your attitude towards them that determines future success, but a lot of it is luck as to how they end up informing your life and future opportunities. I realise this is a very pessimistic outlook, I'm just looking at the facts though. Hindsight is what gives Conan the ability to say all worked out for the best. It could very easily not have though. And if he was as accepting of his circumstances then as he is now, very likely he wouldn't have gotten anywhere. He has always been very driven. That is the element that's probably most relevant. And with that comes a lot of stress, anxiety and depression. And not everyone makes it.

Same thing could be said about Steven. Imagine failing in one role and then immediately getting casted as a major character for what would turn out to be the biggest show on television at one point.
@Viewer13128
@Viewer13128 2 жыл бұрын
Conan's message isn't about guaranteeing that you will get something better to bounce back/recover. His message is that when you are feeling devastated, don't immediately give up on everything because there is always the "potential" to achieve something better than you had initially imagined. Meaning that a person "believes" they know what is best for them, but in reality, nobody knows what is best for them. Just like how parents believe they know what's best for their children while they are actually following society's trends. In philosophy, we should not believe we know what's best for anyone because nobody knows the future. So Conan's message is just telling you not to self-destruct or give up the moment you lose what you wanted. He's not actually guaranteeing you that you will get something better.
@Alice-ui9oy
@Alice-ui9oy 2 жыл бұрын
@@Viewer13128 Thanks. That is definitely a more helpful way of looking at things, than the way I generally interpret and consequently dismiss the encouraging messages given by people who are very successful. The main point I was making which still holds true, is that it's important for people to realise that success usually comes DESPITE the set-backs, not BECAUSE of them. It's disingenuous and unfair on those who are really struggling in their lives to say 'look at where I came from, look at all the bad stuff that happened to me, now look at where I am now. No reason you can't do it too!!'. I do agree that isn't what Conan does though.

@@Alice-ui9oy If you watched other Conan's podcast episodes, you will know that he's clearly aware that luck is a major part of why he is succesful now. So yeah, I think Tla is on point on that message.

@@patrickryan1092 Of all of the events of the comics, I feel like Negan killing Glenn was the most asked for moment....For years all I heard was fans asking whether Negan would kill glenn, and the anticipation after the finale cliffhanger left everyone dissecting the audio file, trying to figure out if it was glenn who died. And when it happened, it really proved how much that the stakes were high and anyone could die. It was the moment of the show that sticks with me the most and was one of the most jaw dropping scenes in TV history. I don't know why anyone would ever want to change that. It was the shows game of thrones moment and it nailed it.

I tried-I really tried-listening to this entire podcast with Steven Yeun, but I could only make it about half way through before I had to quit. Why? Because I’ve never heard ANYONE say the word “like” so constantly (as an aside) in my life. After a while, all I was hearing coming out of his mouth was LIKE, and I couldn’t pay attention to anything else he was trying to say. Someone-his agent, his wife, etc.-would be doing him a huge favor to tell him to remove the word “like” from his vocabulary, permanently.
