I know this is an old post and comment thread, but so what if he is South Korean, I fail to see the significance of his national origin. . .He could be Indian, Israeli, European(I include all people of European decent regardless if they crossed the pond or not.), and the message would be the same, help these kids have a decent life. I can not imagine what it would be like living as a refugee, let alone a refugee child with no parents. . .It horrifies me to think about it. Honestly if I could adopt a child I would adopt a child from N. Korea, but I am a single dude I am pretty sure I wouldn't be allowed to adopt. If/When I get married, and this is still an ongoing issue, I will see how my lady feels about it.

What do people mean by signifying that he is "South Korean"? What the heck. He is an American. His ethnic background is KOREAN. The Yuen(Yohn/Yun) family was an significant aristocratic family in the Korean dynasty of Goguryeo - that spanned in Manchuria and in the Northern Korean Peninsula and bloomed the golden age of Korea. He must be proud for being in the Yuen family.

+Wandrative It is so sad to see the culture of Northern Korea dwindle today - where as in the past, it was the heart of Korean culture, and Korea itself. I wish my last name was Yeon or Go, but unfortunately it is Hong. At least the Hong family also started in Goguryeo too.....

Ts K ....*facepalm* are you kidding me? WTH. The pronunciation of 연 can be written in many ways. In fact, YOHN is closer to the actual pronunciation.

Ts K And I am a native Korean who actually knows what the YOHN family is about - do you think the 'official' makeshift mechanism of converting Korean to English (that is popular in South Korea) is the perfectly correct way? Hey then is there a single way of writing 'Egypt' in Korean? No. There is - 이집트 and 에굽. How about 'Christian'? There can be 크리스찬/크리스천/크리스티앙 etc.

love Steve for bring attention to the plight of the North Korean refugees. i am more bothered by the human trafficking of N Korean women by the Chinese. They are sold to Chinese husband or brothels. Chinese are even crossing into North Korea to lure women with promises of better living conditions in China. Chinese trafficker are taking advantage of the desperate situation in N Korea- food shortages, pathetic economy, etc.
