Mineral spirits works OK as a carb cleaner if you have at least 24 hrs to let it soak in there.

Steve - I followed these instructions and resurrected a Troy-Bilt mower with a Briggs & Stratton engine that had been sitting in mothballs for 18 years. I am not exaggerating, 18 years. Thanks for the help!

I have seen the rubber seat swell up from carburetor cleaner. I don’t spray the rubber seat or I take it out and clean it then replace the seat. Or if rubber tipped needles I don’t spray those either

Hi Steve, I just cleaned my first carburetor on an old Briggs installed on an old cub cadet lawn mower. It had a surging problem and didn't start good at times, followed your instructions and cleaned it, now it works great. Thanks for the video that you put on here, they are very helpful.

Steve, I have a Briggs Stratton 6.5 hp engine on my pressure washer. I do all the right maintenance at beginning and end of each season but this year I couldn't get it to start. So I turned in to your video, bought some carb cleaner and followed your instructions. Runs great again. Thanks again for taking the time to show us all how. Thank you for this video. I like your style of teaching. I was able to get my pressure washer running again. Honestly, the biggest challenge for me was getting the dang thing off the engine. I've had bad luck in the past disassembling things. Too many parts left over so this time, I was very careful, took lots of pictures and wrote down my removal steps. That made it easier to reassemble and make sure I didn't leave anything off. Again. Thanks so much

THANK YOU! I'm a young widow with 4 kiddos and the shop said it would cost me $150-240 to clean my push mower's carb. I thought I can buy a brand new one for that! so I paid the fee for them to figure out what was wrong with it and left. Thanks to you I'm going to clean the carb again. I tried it before but the video I watched wasn't as in-depth as this one. Thank you! The tips like the welding tip cleaner and the chainsaw file are AWESOME! My husband had all that stuff and now I can save some money, continue encouraging the kids to diy and I feel like I'm making my hubby proud while empowering myself.

Sir, I'm a lifetime teetotaller, so we'll never share a beer together, but if you're ever in Eastern Ontario Canada I owe you a steak for the time and money you just saved me. I have a tandem load of logs out there to be split and my splitter wouldn't start. Was sitting for a few years. Dirty carb. I always appreciate your video's, Steve. After watching this one, I pulled and cleaned a needle valve on a 6 month old mower. It didn't stop the gas from flowing out the intake, but removing all the fuel from its oil sump did! [Then I learned my son-in-law filled both the tank and the oil with fuel.]

Steve I have used torch tip cleaners for years. Another great idea I use is those little wire brushes for cleaning between your teeth. They are little conical shaped brushes and they come in different sizes. I love all the precious knowledge you share with us. Thank you for this video. I tinkered with my Briggs and Straton pressure washer for a few hours and couldn't get it to work. Watched your video and you were right. My nozzle was partially clogged. I just repaired a like new mower that was donated to our club. Would not start when warm with the choke wide open. Would start with starting fluid or choking it manually. Watched this video a few times Turned out the brass insert in the carb body was plugged with white gunk. The bowl was clean and the main jet was fairly clean. Starts now with one pull, hot or cold. Thanks, Steve!

dude that trick with the little Carburetor bold with the twist tie just saved me from shoving or finding someone to fix my snowblower, unreal that little part is what gave me a headache about why she was spitting and sputtering and not starting, unreal, thank you thats all I can say!

Hi Steve, Just wanted to drop you a line and say thanks again for your videos.I have a Toro 30" walk behind mower with a briggs engine. It has worked good for a long time. I just finished cutting grass and took a break, mower was working good. After break, started the engine, engaged the blades and it died. Started it again started and shut off right away. Remembered this video and comment about why engines sugre. I removed the fuel bowl and cleaned the jet, ran carb cleaner thru it, bowel was clean. Put it back on and it started right up, problem fixed. Thanks again Steve.

Steel guitar strings work fine as well. High E is .010" Lower E is .046"

Yes, and the guitar string doesn't deform like the soft wire of a twist tie does when you have to poke it down blind passageways, like in some Honda Carburetors.

This helped me. I had the brass jet apart 2 times, cleaning it out. I got it running a little bit, for 20 seconds at a time. Then you explained how to clean out the little jet center hole with a bread wrapper wire. So I took my jet out again. Holy crap, that thing was full of hard black junk. After reaming it with the bread wrapper wire and blowing it out, reinstalled the jet. Now I'm using my push mower again for the first time in 2 years. Thanks!

Thanks Steve. I was unaware of the main jet being built into the bowl retaining bolt. I am about to rebuild my B&S carb and am glad I found your video before doing that today. .

I hadn’t been able to get my pressure washer running for over a year. I had the carburetor off last year and cleaned all I could but I didn’t realize the bottom bolt was the main jet so I didn’t clean it. I took it off today and cleaned it all including the main jet. Took fuel tank and lines off and blew them out. Put everything back together and started on 5th pull. Thanks Steve.

I was in a bind and pulled the seat out and ripped it a bit. Flipped it the other way and working like a champ for now. I want to thank you for all the tips, tricks and repair. You have made the repairs easy.

You saved my life. I took the carb bowl off (done this before) but the pin and plastic insert fell out and I had no idea how to put it back together. Your video showed me exactly how to do it and it worked. Thanks.

If you know someone who plays guitar, ask them for an old "B" string that they might have after changing strings. It's the perfect size for cleaning carbs!

Great channel! Had a Briggs running a little ruff after a few minutes. I followed your advise that 9 times out of 10 the carbs are clogged at the main jet and that was the case with mine. I didn’t even have to remove the carb. If your ever in Northern Illinois I owe you a beer! Thanks!!

Thanks, Steve. Great video with clear instructions and good images. I have both a lawn mower and a snow blower and have eliminated things like spark plug or air filter...so, carburetor it may be. Will post back if it works. My only concern is skin contact with carb cleaners, so that part I will avoid.

Thanks again Steve! I have a Toro TimeMaster lawnmower with a B&S engine. It had not been starting for a couple of years without pouring some gas down the carb. Your video was spot on. I pulled the carburetor off and it looked clean as a whistle. But I cleaned each point that you described. Put it back on and wow! It starts as good as when it was new now. Keep up the great videos!

The copper wire inside electrical wire works great because it comes in lots of different sizes

That is what I use [soft drawn copper] and it is softer than the metal I'm cleaning, so it won't hurt the carb metal.

I have my own shop of 12 years now. One of the first things I learned was to STOP USING CARBURETOR CLEANER! I only use brake cleaner. You can install a rubber seat on one of those push mower carburetors. Hook up the float and needle...then squirt some carb cleaner into the intake where you installed the seat. Hold carburetor horizontally and watch the float start rising!! Carb cleaner make rubber seals swell big time!

Thank you! My husband and father have been tinkering with the carburetor on our wood chipper for a few days. So today, I googled how to clean the carburetor and found your video. 3:30 into video showed what our problem was! That little bolt at the bottom of the fuel well was super clogged. Easy as pie! Actually, making pie is kinda hard. This was as easy as buying a pie. Thanks!

I'm working on a Briggs 190cc that only starts when I spray a lirtle starting fluid in the carb. Then it starts and atays running. No primer plunger exists. Any helpful clues? Thank you!!!

Thank You..!! Never knew the bolt holding the bowl on had another purpose..!! Worked for hours trying to get my generator working. !! I gave up..!! Watched your video & instantly knew it was the bolt because I didn't see any holes in it.. Just went back out & took the bolt out & found all 3 holes cleaned it thoroughly & instantly started..!!
