I think the spring of my starter broke then. When i try to rewind it, it just clicks after one turn and loses all built up tension to the point where Im unable to wrap the rope around even once

I got a Craftsman power washer with a Honda engine and I fixed the starting rope but when I install it back, the rope still doesn't fully retract

Great tip! Helped! I personally would not use WD-40 or any other lubricant UNLESS it's 100% silicon. Coming from the hang gliding world, I learned that stuck zippers could be cleared with 100% Silicone but using WD-40, I'm guessing it's petroleum based, will weaken the sail material. Sailboats would apply to this also. Since the pull cord is under tension force, I wouldnt want anything on it that could degrade it. Im not criticizing but by the time that spring gets rusty, the cord is probably had some wear and we dont want to buy or make a new one. Whatcha think?

Our go-cart has a similar problem. Instead of not recoiling, it won't pull out. You have to pull the rope really fast for it to catch, otherwise, you're just pulling the rope, and it just keeps going.

Good afternoon Steve's Small Engine Saloon,thx for the advice on how to recoil a pull Rope all the way back,I had to use this video on a Stihl FS 38 Weedeater,which it recoils the pull Rope all the way back in now,nicely done man,thx again.
