Speakin' of Albert Collins. Master of the Telecaster... I met with Albert backstage at Rockefellers Houston about 2 or 3 weeks after Stevie passing. I asked about his thoughts on Stevie...He went silent, saying only "We lost something special ". RIP SRV and Mr. Albert Collins.

Look, the thing is this: The original neck was replaced with the neck of his other guitar "Red" because the original had been refretted too many times and it was mostly out of rosewood. Then what happened, Red's neck was broken after stage equipment fell on it. The same day they ordered a replacement from Fender and installed it the same night. After SRV died, they put the original shit neck back on and put the new neck on Red.

Stevie was getting very close to retiring Number One at this point. The neck was busted from equipment falling on it so one from another guitar was installed, including a new p/g. I think Butterscotch was set to replace it as Stevie's number one. Anyway, the original neck was repaired masterfully and after his death it and the original p/g was put back on Number One and presented to Jimmy Vaughan. Around '03 it was taken out of the vault and "cloned" by Fender.
@fergus1494
@fergus1494 12 жыл бұрын
keeping in mind that number 1 was practically just a bunch of fender parts strapped together and constantly being repaired as each part failed.. the neck was re fretted so many times the fret board was ruined. the neck of one of his other guitars was borrowed for a quick repair (before a show) but another neck went on eventually.. the neck was never the same one as the body.. well when stevie had it at least. the whammy bar was because they couldn't get the right one in time for a show..ect

This guitar is the replica... Atleast according to Rene Martinez... Stevies guitar tech.
@pb12661
@pb12661 5 жыл бұрын
I believe just the neck was a replacement. A piece of scaffolding fell at a previous gig and broke the neck and his tech was able to get a replacement. the original neck was later returned to the guitar after SRV's death. "Because of frequent re-fretting, the original neck became unplayable by the late ‘80’s and was swapped with the neck of another guitar in Vaughan’s stable, Scotch. Ironically, just a month before his death, a piece of stage rigging fell on Number One and snapped the neck at the head-stock. It was the Scotch neck and not the original that was destroyed. Martinez acquired a replacement from Fender and Stevie was without the use of his favorite guitar for only one show. After Stevie Ray’s death, Rene replaced the new neck with Number One’s original and the guitar was given back to Stevie’s family. It now belongs to Stevie’s brother, Jimmie."

I was just thinking that the other day. Was listening some real good jazz on the radio ,and I was actually thinkin SRV might have put out a, Jazz album. A lot of jazz is based on the same chord progressions as Blues. Any player or aficionado knows about the 145 and the 251 and the 1625 changes.
