I paid $90 to see Prince in about 2003 'musicology' tour. No regrets he brought the friggin house DOWN. Played a medley of his hits. I brought a lefty with me, and FORGOT to burn it. Transfixed. Props to his band they were right with him.

He really was a true guitar master; the absolute control of that fretting hand, muting whatever string/strings he wanted at any time, which allowed him to dig in hard to every strum with his picking hand and get extra sound, the subtle quick switches on the knobs and pickup switch that are constantly happening so the tone and sound would shift and change during each song, and that passion and intensity, never a second of less then 100%. Absolutely the best!! RIP Stevie, as always a true inspiration!

As an avid Strat player with 40+ yes of band experience, Stevies playing both inspired me and made me want to give up playing at the same time. His ability to just have the guitar become an extension of himself, and pull tones out of the instrument that I've never come close to achieving. And you're right, non players may not have the same understanding of just what a rare talent he was. In 7yrs he introduced so many people to the blues and many longtime blues plates credit him with the revival of their careers. Guitar players ran out to buy the albums of all the blues greats SRV mentioned that influenced him. Tragic the way it ended for him, his loss to blues lovers around the world left holes in all our hearts.

i think that music is music there is no standard; there is nothing wrong with computer generated sounds bc you could say legends like the beatles used them in there earliest form using the mellotron. Also, there is good music today otherwise it wouldnt have such great effect on people and those people have talent. However, SRV's level of virtuosity on the guitar will never be matched as his style is so impeccable unique it will never ever be repeated in the near future.

This may not be a very popular opinion but the video that goes along with music i still consider to be part of the artistry that makes music so good. Such as why i like to watch live performances as his technique on the guitar is so mezmerising and adds to the emotion of the music. I think why you may feel this way about modern pop music is bc blues music has died out and it sometimes feels like rock is on the way out soon as well. and to answer your question i play the guitar, and i think youll find most people are drawn to SRV bc they are guitar players and want see what the best looks like.

In 1980 my wife and I hand carried a Diamond and Ruby bracelet from our " Cartiers" Jewelry store in Paris to Texas for Stevie's 26th birthday. He invited us to stay the night and celebrate his birthday. The Tequila flowed.

i’m a 13 year old who lives and breaths the blues. Right now i’m doing a research project on the blues as well as stevie, i’ve learned so much and even learned my social studies teacher saw stevie 4 times before he passed. There’s just something so magical about the way stevie played and it’s a shame no one I show his music to understands that magic. If it wasn’t for stevie my guitar would be collecting dust. Thanks stevie for creating such good music. I guess it wouldn’t have been such a bad thing growing up in the 80s 🙂. RIP stevie I hope to be like you some day This is an edit a whole year later: Got my first fender strat for my birthday this fall Gotten huge into Dwayne and Derek and all that slide stuff can’t even begin to dive into all the strides I’ve made as a musician in a year man time flies. fucking insane. Anyways I’m loving life and guitar although never as much as I did during those early times of covid, hours on hours of playing, I miss that, been swamped with life shit... more of an excuse more than anything. Probably gonna post some stuff on this account too Until next year??

Doug Richardson Thank you sir i’ll check it out!!That project sent me down a worm hole and I can’t get out, i’m constantly learning new techniques and have listened to just about everybody in the books, right now i’ve been obsessed with clapton and have finally started to branch away from stevie a little, as that’s who i used to only listen to😂. I’ve also been listening to some Albert King and it’s been really cool to hear the influence from Albert King in SRV’s tone. I’m proud to say since i made this comment i’ve improved so much and i’m really starting to move away from my dream of being an athlete to a musician. All these kind reply’s i’ve been getting on here every few weeks have been amazing and inspire me to keep going!

My favorite SRV song...so much emotion! Took Hendrix to another dimension with the "Texas twang"...easily identifiable, had his own unique sound. Thank God I saw him on the USS Enterprise w/ Joe satriani opening back in '87 or '88 in NYC. We're still waiting for another great blues guitarist to come along...Thanks Stevie!!!
