Stevie not even in recovery yet and this host pushes him regarding Hendrix. I had to comment since reading Texas Flood from what I understand He and Lou Ann Barton used to clash about Hendrix and to see Stevie calm as ever just shake his head "no" when asked just goes to the core of who he was!! Stevie was not feeling this dude at all. The standard issue reason is not worth mentioning but Stevie was not at all feeling the views of MTV ignoring Black Artists but yet they wanted to Interview him. He agreed to do it but he said early on he was not going to talk much.

I don't think SRV sounds much like Jimi Hendrix. Yes, he influenced Stevie's sound but he took that sound and mixed it with his own sound and expanded on it so much. If you listen to Jimi, he sounds like Jimi. If you listen to Stevie, he sounds like Stevie. There's no mistaking the two. Stevie's sound was just faster, heavier and more technical. I'm not dissing Jimi but SRV was THE ULTIMATE blues player.

I guess it's 1 of the 1st tv interviews Stevie did, but to me watching this today, the interviewer comes across as hugely disrespectful to a guitarist we now remember as a legend in his own right, by continuing to ask him about Hendrix and doing covers. It's as if he doesn't want to acknowledge SRV's talents at all. Of course Hendrix was a god of guitar but surely you just don't get an artist on the show and spend most of the time talking about a different artist. In his typical humble way Stevie just carries on and shrugs it off.

He must be high, because he can't seem to address the question of why he didn't put a Hendrix song on his album. Or maybe he's just nervous, or that's his way of ignoring a mediocre question.
