My favorite part of this tune is the F minor chord in the chorus. I’ve never come across another song that goes from the tonic to a minor chord a tritone away. Very cool.

I feel LITERALLY the same way as you with that exact chord/moment in the song. And i've also seen other videos showing that part but miss using Fm7, and use another chord, don't know why.

Really enjoyed the way you formatted this video! Love the overhead angle paired with the side angle, and then you even throw in the note detector for more clarity on your overhead angle. To too it all off, you graciously put the chord types above it as your are playing too! This is a really helpful and clear and concise way to translate the same thing that sheet music would take pages and pages to do. Liked and subbed my friend. :)

Thanks so much for this tutorial. Just to be precise. The overall scale on the unison riff is actually a B-major blues scale, due to the tone "D" used a couple of times. To be fair - the B-major blues scale comes out of the B-pentatoic scale, just by adding the b3 tone in the B-pentatonic scale = in this case "D". The blues scale therefore consist of six tones - the pentatonic (as in its name penta = 5) consist of 5 tones. ;)

@bgmusic2010 I didn't understad everything, but chord has voices: b(1st), c#(2nd or 9th), d#(3rd) and f#(5th). Bsus2(or B2), has 2nd(c#), but not 3rd(d#). Badd9 has both(2nd & 3rd). That's why I would choose Badd9.

Anybody else notice the similarity between this and Giant Steps? I'm not saying a huge similarity, because it's only in one key, B major (unlike GS) but you can see some of the II-V-I's in those three keys.

I really enjoy your approach to playing and teaching. Based on the horn chart and the original book the intro is certainly based on the the arpeggios you named, starting with, B- D#-F#-B, but instead of it being G#-G#-B-G#-B-D#-B-D#-G# it's G#-G#-B-A#-B-D#-D-D#-G# followed by G-G-B-B-D-C#-D-G-F#. Your way of playing it is much easier to finger I admit. Is that why you changed it?

Thanks for sharing this video man! it helped me a lot with the tricky stuff in the song;) I have one question: In the chorus, your last chords is an F#11, but i noticed that you're not playing an A#, so in other words your not playing a third. isn't it better to call it a C#m7/F#? or an F#9sus4? don't get me wrong I'm not trying to be a pain in the ass, because this video was of great help to me, but i was just wondering. if it is an F#11, can you please explain why? Thanks! and keep posting

Great!...but why there is "Bsus9"? Piano plays d# -note, which is third of B-chord and "sus" dosn't have third?! Maybe "Badd9" is better?

What does E△9 and Bsus9 mean? I don't understand chords that well... :/
@joshuac6657
@joshuac6657 9 жыл бұрын
E△9 = E△ + the major 9th. Root = E Third = G# Fifth = B Seventh = D (Ninth) = F# Same goes for Bsus9, although the the sus2 is the same as the sus9 (a 9th is a 2nd an octave higher!). Look for your standard Jazz harmony books and such, but when applied, it doesn't seem like Greek at lightspeed. Any questions, just drop me a line!

Joshua Collins - the hardest thing is trying to reach the speed of light in a rocket. Then you're dealing with rocket science (including Greek letters) at lightspeed.

for this E chord with the triangle it's the major 7th that needs to be added in the chord too, not just the major 9th.. so it has a d# major 7th not a d natural in the chord- you can see it when he plays that chord in the video too. just want to clarify for metallicarocks911

It is wonderful but don't you have a normal score. Coming from classical music it is quite difficult to grasp this writing and the rythm has to be guessed. Anyway your video is great. Thank you.
