Stewart-Haas Racing has turned into nothing short of a disaster since their peak at around the 2018 NASCAR Cup Series season and many are focused (rightfully so) on the involvement of Tony Stewart. Smoke being one of the best drivers in NASCAR history with a personality to match that as well. But there is another side with this partnership with Gene Haas, and Haas had a NASCAR team for nearly a decade before Tony Stewart's name was the leading one on the logo. This is Stewart-Haas Racing before Tony Stewart.

Yes I believe had WARD BURTON , & KENNY WALLACE both had a chance in top Equipment like hendrick motorsports , gibbs , early 2000s DEI , or even Richard childers I believe both would've had very different Careers idk if I'd say they be a champion but definitely would had a lot more wins well At least kenny would've had 1 win lol.. Kenny was an awesome driver and even better person I done a Commercial with Kenny and rusty when I was 10 years old the kenny you see on TV is the Exact same way in person very Loud & funny as hell always joking I don't think kenny or anyone there wasn't laughing the whole time after we where done he Autographed the hat he was werin #55 square d and then took and opened up a brand new hat and signed it for my sister so I could take it home to her.. P.S rusty was an A$$

So if people don’t remember Gene Haas went to prison in 2007 for tax fraud. In prison he has talked to Custer who was running the team in 2008 and told him make the team better or shut it down. So the Tony Stewart deal was the Hail Mary to save the team, no Stewart deal, that team would have most likely folded by end of 2009.

Jack Sprague, Mike Bliss, Jeff Green, and Ward Burton all did well with the equipment they were given. I wish Haas had been able to give them better. I’d say that they were relatively mid-pack at best, and field filler at worst. Flashes of potential, but largely way too inconsistent to be up front every week. Since Tony came to the team, SHR has been a staple of both success and failure in our sport, just like it’s Ford predecessor, Robert Yates Racing. They’ve had successes with Tony, Ryan, Kevin, and Kurt, but also misses with others like Danica, Daniel, and Cole (All of which were rushed up too early). Like the organization before it, they have good drivers, and good sponsors, they just lack consistency, and the ability to make competitive equipment at the moment. Where they differ, is that SHR has the chance to rebuild, now that they have Josh Berry, and the possibility of hiring Shane van Gisbergen or Michael McDowell to replace Aric Almirola. Regarding their situation now, I’d say that if Tony can pull his team together, and not leave everything up to Gene, Zippy, and Joe Custer, they’ll be back on track, but it will be slow. PS, Fun Fact: Ward Burton could’ve had a completely different career. He was actually picked by Rick Hendrick to go to the 25 car in 1997, but Budweiser rejected him for Ricky Craven. An underrated driver could’ve been completely different, had things gone his way.

You neglected to mention Johnny Sauter’s Xfinity win in 2004, the lone win for the team before Stewart. This meant that when Cole Custer won in 2014 at the New Hampshire truck race, Haas became just the 6th owner to win a race at all three levels of NASCAR (interestingly enough with 2 of the 3 categories being without Tony: the 2004 Busch win which was pre-Tony, and the 2014 Truck win which was fielded directly by Haas instead of SHR

This could be the case with RWR after gaining Justin Haley now. And knowing the direction that have been heading in lately. I don’t think the flip would automatically switch by next year. But I think it will take them several years to get to a decent level and then what could be the top level if they make a push for it. But just thinking about what they could become is actually a bit exciting.

My NASCAR number or sports number would be 0 or 00, but not because of Haas before Tony Stewart. Just sad to see my favorite driver in Kevin Harvick almost win at Phoenix, when that was the 6th time there and out of all 6 times at the track, no Phoenix wins. But this organization as a whole has had struggles with the new Fords since even before NextGen. Just been weird seeing Harvick dominate 2020, to now and see an exponentially driven decline.
