From an episode of the 1995 BBC2 series 'Mondo Rosso'. Guest reviewer Stewart Lee joins Jonathan Ross to discuss exploitation films 'For Your Height Only', 'Freaks' and 'Chained For Life'. Then they have a game of Twister and do a 'Pulp Fiction' gag. Simpler times.

I can remember staying up late, hiding from my parents to watch this. I'd sneak downstairs and turn on the telly, and sit really close with my head against the speaker, eating jaffa cakes. I was 28 years old.

I'm glad Stewart Lee's career suffered enormously before he became mainstream again. Can you imagine if he'd continued to be smug without pretending it is an act? HE WANTS THE MOON ON A STICK. Of course, they're all moons on a stick by the time I've finished with them etc.

I lasted until 4:42. Roughly where Ross pokes fun at the poor people in that film. But then, he'd already had a pop at someone and got up my nose before he'd finished his opening. It's all he's good for. How the blokes in work continuously is beyond me.

Totally. You kind of wonder what they were thinking. I mean, Stewart Lee holds himself up as a beacon of political correctness and this is just your typical lazy humour, basically just laughing at people with disabilities, that he does whole damning routines about nowadays. Uncomfortable viewing for non-morons.
@jimmycampbell78
@jimmycampbell78 7 жыл бұрын
Surely they were commenting on the films, and not generally about 'people with disabilities'.
@thevision8764
@thevision8764 7 жыл бұрын
@Scubapig. Stewart Lee was not laughing at the people in Freaks; he was making a pointed remark at Jonathan Ross because he is exactly the type of person who would laugh at it. Hence why he says, " banned for a long time, wasn't it - probably because they were worried it was going to fall into the hands of people who'd laugh at it.2 At which point he fixes him with a stare. Did you actually watch it or are you just incapable of rational thought?
@vooveks
@vooveks 7 жыл бұрын
+The Vision Um...There's plenty of bits in that where he's joining in on the jokes, mainly in the commentary on the tiny James bond guy, so don't make out like it's all knowingly ironic and Stewart Lee wasn't complicit. Besides which, I didn't mention Freaks at all, so you appear not to have read my comment before going all mental about it. But to answer your question, yes, I'm incapable of rational thought and incredibly stupid and I didn't watch it.
@thevision8764
@thevision8764 7 жыл бұрын
At which point during the review of the Bond film parody did Stewart Lee make fun of a disabled person? There are "PLENTY OF BITS", as you say, so no doubt you will have a plethora of examples from which to choose.
