The sad truth of the matter is British comedy used to take risks, now production companies have lost their nerve. TV production companies are now diverting more money into cheap reality TV formats and many assume audiences are stupid or not ready for a new kind of material. They need to take more risks in my view!

same situation in Australia. There's one main management company that produces and represents the main stand ups and comedy content for TV. So people only see this narrow band of blandness from a set stable of comics.

Comedians don´t make me laugh, they´re boring. They just go on and on and on. Stewart is about the only one I´ll listen to because he knows the truth, too, and tells it - these are not the days for comedians. Jimmy Carr, for example, I look at him with astonishment - he´s just not funny, he just talks grimly about himself and things and gives that hyena-like cackle. He must know he´s not funny surely?
