Went to see him live doing "Basic Lee" four days ago. I'm still digesting it! His deconstruction of comedy is absolutely superb!

I love Stewart Lee, he is known as the comedian's comedian. his stand up is brilliant.. so ironic you saying if you explain the joke it's not funny, cos this is something Stewart Lee is famed for doing as he tells half the audience for not getting it lol

The intro music is actually very much the kind of music Stewart Lee is really into. He’s a big fan of avant garde jazz and music in general.

I hope you finish this set. It's very good and gets better IMO. However, I think his later work is much better. Carpet Remnant World Content Provider and his Comedy Vehicle series are works of genius as far as I'm concerned. I'd love to see your reaction to them

Stewart Lee is good but you have to trust him and have a lot of patience because he can go on a bit and drag things out.

Opening with "if we have to explain a joke its not funny" on a Stewart Lee video is a little worrying. If you explain the joke for 10 minutes with a running commentary on how it is being received by different parts of the audience it can be pretty funny.

Yeah, Stew likes brick jokes and dragging jokes on far longer than is appropriate. That makes clips far less funny than the full performance in context.

I insist on all comedians, actors, authors and other artists filling in a questionnaire about their political and social views before I expose myself to their output just in case. I was in the Louvre recently and saw people clustering around the Mona Lisa. It looked good but as I am not sure where Leonardo da Vinci stood on free market economics and the issues surrounding transsexuals, I could not bring myself to appreciate the painting just in case.

I agree. But you have to put the politics to the back of your mind because there are only lefty comedians on the TV now, because when anybody makes left wing jokes they have a meltdown and get them cancelled. It is what it is and he is funny.

It wasn't the 9th November but the 11th September! The Yanks date system works in reverse to the rest of the world, hence 9 / 11. The 19th century French musical entertainer he refers to is Le Petomane, a guy who performed on stage with his musical farts, which was a funny movie of the same name starring English comedian Leonard Rossiter.
