More from ITV's 'Stand Up', 1991. Incidentally, the other comedians on this particular edition were Jeff Green, Rob Newman, Nick Revell and Brenda Gilhoolie.

@OhDannyBoyThePipes Your guess, predictably enough, is perfectly accurate. I love your politeness so here is a little poem I wrote for the Daily Mail some years ago, which extends the Robert the Bruce connection. In my version, the spider is a hopelessly incurable gambling addict who also has a hand (or leg) in inspiring the Caledonian hero. I called it: Robert the Bruce - the Real Story. "When Bob the Bruce was in his cave, preparing for the fray A small arachnid caught his eye, just perched along the way But this was no bog-standard bug that wastes his time on spinning This lad was out to mastermind the noble art of winning. So Bob looked on with growing awe, as spiderboy got cracking His Racing Post would give the clues to what was best for backing Selections made, his phone came out, and then some frenzied chatter His bookie understood damn-all, but still, it didn't matter. An hour later, ashen-faced, the spider learned the worst For all his horses ran all right, but none of them came first. But then occurred a wondrous sight The spider, far from taking flight, propped up his Post and licked his pen And started reading form again. Now Bob the Bruce was most impressed, he nodded to his in-cave guest Then strode outside into the light, ambition burning fierce and bright. The next gig up was Bannockburn, for sure, the real deal To rout those saucy Sassenachs, and bring those scum to heel And history tells us this occurred, for Bob, so bold and brave But who would guess the architect lay punting in that cave?" Very best wishes Ian

I Had A horrible old teacher called Miss Wilson. She taught us hygiene and sex education .
@mizofan
@mizofan 7 жыл бұрын
Did she treat those subjects entirely separately or teach them together; sex and hygiene, a guide for youngsters? Which reminds me, we had a female history teacher, Miss Thingammyjig (Thingamejig?) who brought sex into the subject when she told us how Catherine the Great died, at the hands - no, that would be the hooves, but in fact it wasn't the hooves either, it was (excuse my crudity, I'll use a term I heard on BlackAdder 3) the large dingle dongle- of a horse; and I have reason now to believe this was false and I have come to wonder why a female history teacher would raise such an issue with 13 year old boys. As you may have guessed, I can't remember her name- she only taught us for a term-, but in that time I craftily managed to bring into the history lesson a subject that also interested me; when drawing a diagram of the battle of Stamford Bridge on the blackboard, the way the competing armies were arranged, I was surreptitiously substituting for that not very well known example of 11th century warfare a diagram of the 1972 league cup semi final between Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur. Now, after all these years- can so many decades really have passed so quickly?- I remember my friend, a Spurs fan (in the immortal words of Joe E Brown, nobody's perfect), was struck on the head and cut by a board rubber hurled at the lad in front of him by the geography teacher. Never mind the bullies, school was a dangerous place for us kids in those days, but I don't remember any teachers being called Wilson. Probably just as well. Some of us might never have lived to tell the tale.
