Years ago picked up MSAR clone thinking that would never see a Steyr in US again, was going to upgrade withe real deal but my NATO version has the reversible ejection and external bolt release and lucky for me no quality issues that plagued msar. So that being said I love the AUG but I can’t give up my extra features on my gun that runs great.

@@misha5670 apparently they stopped doing it when steyr USA took over production? Some allege the FN barrels were flaky but who knows if that is people with later barrels making excuses. Either way mine is the newer hammer forged nitride type and it’s an amazing gun anyway.
@adam3651
@adam3651 2 жыл бұрын
@@misha5670 yes around second half of 2019 steyr usa switched from using FN made chromed hammer forged barrels to nitrided hammer forged barrels from blanks imported from steyr Austria and nitrided by steyr usa. There were some negative reports on the early nitrided barrels having poor barrel life (under 4000 rounds groups severely opening up), but that may have been corrected by now.

Going from chrome lined to nitride barrels is a trend among AR manufacturers as well isn’t it? I’m surprised the AUG’s trigger hasn’t been improved more. It’s not as horrible as many make it out to be but it’s no Geissele either.

I can tell you a 50 round drum will not work in a stanag AUG, it will lock in but every round is a failure to feed, stanag mags work fine. the 50 rd drum works in a FNC with no failures what so ever, on semi or full.

Can someone confirm 1:7" twist versus the 1:9 on the Steyr website? So with NATO version, you 1. lose the ability to lock the bolt back or release it forward and 2. lose the ability to switch to left hand?
@misha5670

Most AUG barrels have the 1/9 twist rate. That's the standard. From time to time, Steyr has done special runs of barrels with 1/7 twists though.

Nato stocks use 1 trigger bar instead of 2 like standard stocks. Because of this trigger pull is reported as slightly heavier and less crisp than the standard 2 bar version. Also in Europe there is a version of the Nato stock with a bolt release button. Steyr demoed it with their 300 blackout model

The 16" barrel is too short for a bayonet lug, at least one that allows the foregrip to also fold. While the 20" version can be fitted with a lug, the Austrian military never issued bayonets or even fitted their sTG77s with the lug itself. Steyr only made the attachment for export customers.

I’d go with the standard AUG. Trigger on the NATO version is worse since it has a single trigger bar linkage where the standard has double linkage. Also, standard has LRBHO and bolt release where the NATO version does not. Price of Magpul AUG mags are roughly the same as PMAGs if you don’t want to spend the extra cash on the AUG mags.
