Sig lifted the modular chasis intellectual property from Steyr. The suit is running it's course. The first version of these pistols was the M9, made when their USA offices were in Illinois. The original is my carry pistol. 17 rounds, smaller than a G19, but with a crappy proprietary not-really-a-rail. I may need to buy this model.

I have a new A2 and LOVE it!. Yesterday, my wife, daughter, son in law and daughter in law all got a chance to fire it and to a person they found it very controllable, accurate and low recoil. One or two of the ladies had trouble with the slide release (it is a stiff lever). Daughter in law was a first time shooter and she eventually found the grip texture made her hand sore but some of that is (in my opinion) due to her grip being too loose. Worst part is the final comment from my wife. (you can put one of these on my wish list!)

I recently purchased a Steyr M9 and it is my favorite 9 right now, it shoots softly with light muzzle rise because of the low bore axis. Feels great in your hand. Can only imagine a longer slide being even a bit better on the muzzle rise. Wish mine had that magwell!

I love that Steyr has increased the modularity of the grip and brought in a much needed stippling. As for the deletion of the finger grooves I can take or leave those on any pistol. I hope that these new improvements make their way to a compact and sub-compact sized model and maybe introduce a hybrid like the G19X where you have the compact slide with full grip capacity. Either way it goes I love the advancements in ergonomics and if they would just make tritium trapazoidal sights for this it would be the ultimate. Thanks KS for another great video review, Cheers brother!

Putting some rounds down range with my carry pistol last week. Of course I stopped by the display cases afterwards and ogled a few pieces. Told the sales guy I was really only interested in a Steyr, assuming they'd have zero, as had been the case for years. He was biting back a chuckle as he produced a lone L9-A2 MF. Purchased it on the spot. Picked it up today and put 60-70 rounds through it. Damn, it's sweet. Great review on an unfortunately uncommon pistol.

KSGunGuy F.Y.I. I looked at my P 10 S I'm not sure if all P 10's C & F are built this way but the S model I mentioned the Slide Stop is just that! I disassembled it and raised the slide stop and noticed it is angled and doesn't allow it to be used as a slide release. I could file that angle so it would work as a slide release. I thought it was interesting they did that and if you have a P 10 still take a look at it and understand why it's really hard to use as a slide release. It's not going to wear in without modification! Cheers!,let me know your thoughts and findings......

I just upgraded to the L9-A2. It has replaced my M9-A1 as our main home defense handgun. I love the new and improved features and the trigger even feels a little bit better then the A1. I really like the trapezoidal sights but I wish somehow they could be night sights. I have an Insight APLc weapon light on it anyway but still wish the sights were able to be night sights. My only other gripe is the lack of after market support as I would like a nice AIWB holster for it but as it being our Home Defense gun that doesn't matter too much. My Wife loves our Steyr Firearms and shoots them great which is another reason it serves as our main Home Defense handgun. Our AUG A3-M1is one of our BOV guns along with our PS90.

@@KSGunGuy01 OK. Ive had an opportunity to handle the A2 now. I love that the A1 magazines are compatible with the A2; however, the A2 mags ARE NOT compatible with A1s. The grip modularity is actually very well done and allows you to customize the grip so you can get a little more skin contact on the gun...these grip modules are not a gimmick...they DO make a difference in controlability. The texture is like a cross between the PPQ "squiggle" texture and the P10c or Archon super aggressive "chequering" on the backstrap. The bakstrap texture is very good, because it hits the meaty portion of the palm and locks in the gun without being uncomfortable. The PPQ style texturing is appreciated, particularly with sweaty hands. I took the A1 out shooting steel on a super hot day and the grip is very slick when you are sweating. I also appreciate that the texturing stops on the front side of the grip...thats where I find aggressive texturing uncomfortable (a la P10c). One more note about the grip: the magwell is fantastic, but something that I dont think anyone has mentioned yet (not you, 1776, HO, Firearms Guy, or TNSteyr) is that that magwell actually increases the lower portion of the grip thickness from front to rear. What this does is it pushes your pinky forward slightly and it makes the grip feel MUCH more substantial...Im not sure if I like this compared to the thinner grip of the A1, yet, but I will comment further after I take it to the range tomorrow. The barrels are exactly the same. The pic rail is much more functional than the standard accessory rail of the A1. Trigger reset appears to be a bit more audible than the A1, but I think I felt a bit of wobble in the trigger that is not there in the A1. The ONE thing Steyr should have done with this to make it a real standout would have been to add a factory optics cut. I dont know why they didn't do this, although It may have something to do with the thinness of the top of that slide...I have only seen one example of an optics cut, and I think there were some issues that the gunsmith ran into...oh well...the dovetail adapters are pretty good! From an aesthetic perspective...I actually like the streamlined looks of the A1 better...I think the A2 looks a bit busy...it reminds me more of a competition gun, which isnt a bad thing, just a personal preference. Final thoughts are that the A2 is definitely an upgrade. I think it sacrifices looks for function, but if Steyr can gain popularity and support through modularity, then this is ultimately a great move for them...their handguns are SO good, they just dont get the attention, because they are a small company with no marketing budget.

The FCU is the same, so your existing .40S&W, or .357SIG slide and barrel, will work on the frame+FCU of a new A2 model. You just need to get the same length of the frame. I think the .357SIG was only produced in M-size, so you would want to buy a M9-A2 MF, and simply put the .357 SIG slide onto the M9-A2 MF frame. Bingo.

I finally got to put my hands on one this past weekend. I was allowed to run 5 rounds by the owner (whom I just met). I sent the target a modest 25 feet down range to shoot at a 5 inch ring with a 1.25 bull. The sights did startle me a bit at first, but I took my time and learned to read then before taking a shot. I allowed a full trigger reset after shots 1 and 2, then between 3 & 4 I held on the shot to see if i could ride the reset, and no issues, I believe it is tactile enough. I dropped the mag for the last shot so the gun was a light as possible, and squeezed off the fifth shot. I was more than please with the accuracy, all 5 rounds fully inside the bullseye, not even touching the outer ring. The ergonomics, trigger and ease of shooting certainly made those 5 rounds the best of the 300 or so I shot Sunday. I cant wait to get my hands on another one and push the target down range to fully appreciate this work of art.

I’m not scared to drop a dime on something new and try it out. However the only steyr’s I’ve come across locally have been in .40 cal. I have no use for the caliber especially when I’ve got a collection full of 9mm. If I could find one I’d try it for sure. I never jumped on that .40 bandwagon and the only pistols I had in the caliber I got from some of my border patrol buddies.

Good pistol, but they left out an optics cut for the price they are asking for this pistol. CZ added an optics cut to their P10C pistol and released the long and compact versions. Steyr couldn’t figure out that the trend is towards optics ready pistols? Good pistol, but good is the enemy of better. Perhaps they will come out with an optics ready pistol. The marketplace is asking for more features at better prices.
@stickybiscuits41994 жыл бұрын
Quality Guru I agree to an extent. An MOS cut makes for a great nightstand gun but for EDC having a red dot in an IWB set up is a pain.... literally. They may release one in the future, but that roller bearing under the front sight may be a factor. I will still choose a steyr over a P10 for the ergos alone and the trapezoidal sights are amazingly quick and accurate compared to the traditional 3 dot set up. Both the CZ and the steyr beat the pants off of any Glock as far as looks, ergos, quality and overall reliability though. It didn’t take steyr or CZ 5 gens of the same handguns to reach perfection.

@@bobbywhite1645 I think Steyr is very proud of their unique trapezoid sights so I doubt they will do anything to take focus off them. But that’s just a guess on my part, I have no information to say they will or won’t.
@bobbywhite16453 жыл бұрын
@@saxtx09 Just a model with the option like Beretta does with the APX might be nice though. I'd probably buy that. But I agree the trapezoid sights are pretty cool and they probably wouldn't work as a co witness platform for an optic

I wonder if the modular trigger pack means Steyr will produce a compact frame version, like the SIG P320? Great review as always, KS.

That would be very cool if they did Mohawk! Thank you and cheers brother!

I bet if I found one in a gun store I would buy it. I've never had the opportunity to even hold the a1.

I just wonder whether I should get the L9 or the m9 and try and get an extended threaded barrel. Hmm.

Which model did you get and are you happy with your decision?
@XanthosAcanthus3 жыл бұрын
@@darklimechaos I actually haven’t gotten a new model. I believe mine is an s9. I don’t actually carry it, but I still love it.

12:05 at least with the old M9 A1s you don't need to do your "trick" with pulling the trigger, just set the slide on it and rack it all the way back like it would when shooting (with some authority). Pops the lever right up.

It’s not on the trigger, it’s on the lever.

Great video. Man did styer sleep with glock. The "hump" is even worse that the glock and VP 9. I really dont know how people can find any hump comfortable. Baffles me. My genetics , "hand" must be from the J. Moses chromosome. Lol

Steyr and CZ p10c are my net two 9mm's
@fl0sserelli4 жыл бұрын
I have both and love them. I get a few more keyholes with the Steyr, probably because of the lower bore axis. But both are very accurate and feel great in the hand. You won't be disappointed with either one 👍

Very nice! But, should be compared to the G17 not the 19. They made the changes cuz 1776 won't leave them alone until he gets what he wants. Haha
