My grandpa was issued the stg in late 1944 when he was drafted. He said back then it was such a leap from the k98 that it became a quick favorite among the German troops. He never specifically said it was the stg though, it wasn’t until years later when I found his old notebook from the war with a drawing he made of him and his squad riding east sitting on a tank where he was clearly holding an stg.

PSA is supposed to be a doing a release of a Retro reproduction clone of the STG-44 in several caliber later this year, in which I am eagerly awaiting. the STG-44 is an awesome design and just sexy as heck!! I also think it has allot of potential for future modern upgrades, accessories and especially furniture.. if the price of the reproduction STG-44's were more in the lines of the Budget AR platform prices of around 5-$600 or even under the $1K, I think the STG-44 could give the AR a run for its money being Merica's favorite rifle

My answer to the ak-stg post apocalyptic dilemma thing, is that my heart wants the stg but the practical answer would be the ak47 mainly cause of ammo, nowadays it's easier to find 7.62x39 in many places, but you can't find 8mm kurtz everywhere cause it's a cartridge that it's not used at all on militarily stuff. Also imo the ak47 would work better cause of it's resistance and endurance. Great video as always, keep on with this vids man :^)!

@@CoyoteManW bro when you set an ak to any position except safe you create a huge gaping hole in the gun that exposes the internals, im not claiming that one is better than the other but there certainly isnt a more "sealed off" one and afaik the stg only exposes the recoil spring while the ak exposes the boltcarrier, bolt and fire control group
@CoyoteManW
@CoyoteManW Жыл бұрын
@@oldls7t_211 the StG also exposes the bolt carrier with the dust cover off (aka when firing, so it's the same situation with the AK), the StG has gaps on both sides while the AK only has it on the right side, and the AK bolt carrier in itself is a single unit, whereas with the StG debris can get in between the bolt carrier and op rod so there's more chances of a stoppage (I think), so all things considered I'd say it's reasonable to say the AK is a more sealed off system

Hitler didn't "hate" this gun. He preferred a different weapons system because of his own experience in WW1. His development teams tried to sell him on the concept of this gun before it was made and he didn't buy it, which is understandable because assault rifles weren't a thing. No one in the world was making them. So his development team worked on this weapons system while also meeting their quotas on other things they were directed to. And at some point when they had a functioning weapon, they showed it to Hitler and he fell in love with it, he likely is the one that named it the sturmgewehr, and demanded that they be pushed into mass production immediately. This concept that he "hated" it feels like more lazy propaganda.

which one would i choose between the OG ak47 and the chad stg44 in a post apo scenario? Well assuming ammo availability isn't an issue (if it were: ak47, no questions asked), ak47 because the stg is a very peculiar design that is all stamped metal meaning it has no durability what so ever, you use them until they are unusable, and then get a new one, that's the idea behind it. Ak47 on the other hand is an assault rifle that is meant to be extremely durable and be treated very harshly, perfect for post apo.

AK47 based on my current understanding. I have heard the AK47 is reliable and even a gun novice like me can drag it through the mud, clean it out, and it will still fire. In a post apocalyptic situation, there's no telling if I can ever find help with maintenance, so reliability is king.

StG 44 still in use in the ME. Post apochalypse, I'd go with it not only over AK47 but AR 5.56 platforms as well. Why, overall combination of accuracy and stopping power. Essentially the same stopping power as AK47 but accurate for 100 meters more than AK47,, very close to 5.56 in comparison. I wouldn't expect to survive too many gunfights to begin with so I'm not particularly concerned with other factors. Considering it's a wider round that AK it compensates by having the stock more inline with the barrel like AR, being heavier, built to tighter tolerances and with a slightly slower rate of fire. It's not until you get to designs with the picatinny rail and red dot sights that newer rifles gain a significant advantage.

Hitler disliked the STG because Germany was struggling extreme material hardships and Germany couldn't afford troops firing ammunition in the same way the US does today. That's partially why they stuck to hard hitting K98 rifles. It had to be kept simple to reserve what few resources they had. Otherwise I'm sure Hitler would've loved the STG if not for the resource issue.

AK and MP44 both my favorites. Hard to pick. In today's ammo situation, there's much more 7 62x39 than 7.92 Kurz. PPU is only maker right now of Kurz.
@1SaG
@1SaG Жыл бұрын
In an apocalypse scenario, I'd bet 7.62x39 would be way easier to obtain than 8mm Kurz. So that too would make the AK the better choice. Plus: While I'm not sure how many milled AKs were produced, it's gotta be a vastly greater number than StG44s produced. So finding spare parts and/or replacement guns would probably also be way easier.

The StG-44 is easily the superior firearm, but 7.62×39 is easy to come across. Who carries 7.92×33mm Kurz? If you run out of ammunition or need spare parts, which could be a concern in a SHTF scenario, the AK-47 is easy to repair, maintain, and find parts and ammo for. You cannot say that about a collector's item like an StG-44.

@Auschwitz Soccer Ref. that may be but for a hypothetical apocalyptic scenario, the ak is a superior choice in almost every metric. Just because Henry Ford's Model T was one of the first examples of a mass produced automobile does not mean I would every select one to be my daily driver.

Looking at all the comments below I completely second those who chose the AK for 7.62 is more common than 8mm Kurz. Although I will say in a full blown crisis the Stg is completely perfect for use. In Syria, there are reports the rebels pulled old Stg stocks out of captured Syrian weapon bunkers and used them successfully against the Syrian army
