Sticky pockets? Musty smell? I’ve got you covered on your vintage bags!
You guys know how much I love the Louis Vuitton Saint Cloud! This is my birth year bag (I’m 27) and when I received it, it had what’s known as “sticky” pockets. I would likely use the term “peeling” more than sticky, but that is the description commonly used by eBay sellers.
I’d seen on forums and elsewhere that acetone nail polish remover gets rid of this, but I didn’t see enough video testimonials to try it! Hopefully this is helpful and you guys can share your before and afters with me on IG (link below!)
As a vintage lover, I don’t want to be limited by the condition of the bags, sometimes all they need is some TLC 💕

I am in a dilemma with a vintage Gucci the interior is peeling acording to the seller, and I don't want to change the whole interior and spend more. Do you have any advice? I am not really sure if it is a leather interior but it is definitely not fabric. I've been stalking the handbag for a while but I just can't pull the trigger. And changing a little bit of topic I'm having problems buying preloved I just found that I have an obsession and I'm not able to buy a preloved bag without a dustbag. I've passed in pretty good deals because of the lack of dustbags, do you have a similar issue? And how do you deal with that?

I bought a Speedy HL for my 30th and boy did it stink lol. I didn’t want to mask the smell so I just wiped everything down with a wet wipe and then put it in a sealed box with baking soda. It’s totally fine now!

What i do is that when i get silica gels in a pocket ... i bought it in a bag It good to make ur bag not to smell but if its alrdy smelling bad then wipe with gentle wet wipes like baby wet wipes and put a baking soda ... it’s good touse the baking soda when its in the box and open soo very good to use it when ur not using ur bag Leave the box of baking soda overnight inside ur bag... make sure the box is slightly open and the smell should disappear

I just cleaned out the sticky pockets of a St-Cloud GM I purchased a few months ago, after watching your video. The vachetta strap and canvas are in excellent condition, so it was worth the while. I started with Acetone and paper towels; the black stuff coming out of the inside was soooo gross and sticky. I used painter’s tape around the inside pocket to protect the leather from the acetone and the black goo. Once I had gotten most of the black stuff out with the acetone and let it dry, I switched to sprinkling in baby powder then shook the powder and goo bits out of the pockets and dry-wiped the bag with a microfiber cloth. As for the back pocket I only used baby powder since the bottom side of the pocket is LV canvas and acetone would have damaged it. Both pockets are now fully functional! I love the huge pocket in the back of the St-Cloud, perfect for slipping in your phone. It’s such a timeless crossbody bag - mine was made in 1993!

What’s worked for me with odor is putting an open box of baking soda inside the handbag and closing it if it will fit. Then I put the handbag inside of a plastic bag with another box of baking soda. I leave it like that for at least 24 hours then if the weather is dry I put it outside to air out for another 24 hours. Probably not the quickest method-especially if you intend to use the bag immediately but it works

Rapmajor great tip! Will try on my pre-loved Gucci tote. I live at the edge of the desert in the Tucson foothills and I am be afraid a wild pig, coyote or mountain lion would steal my bag 😝

I bought the Jeune Fille PM off eBay from a seller in Japan. It came with actual sticky pockets - it was like you were peeling them apart to get into each pocket. I watched a number of KZfaq videos of cleaning them with qtips and acetone so I thought what the hell. I used cotton face cleaning pads and it went very quickly and turned out so well! I will totally do that again. I currently have a toiletry 15 with stuffed with a washcloth sprayed with fabreeze wrapped in another fabreeze sprayed washcloth sealed in a zip lock to see if I can get the moth ball smell out. I’d say I’m up for a little work to get nice vintage pieces for a good price! Sorry so long - love your channel and info!

Great tips! I use acetone as well. In the past I've also taken an exacto knifte and cut the peeling pocket/lining out to reveal the other side of the canvas or epi leather.

Bought my first Louis Vuitton vintage bag actually first LV last month for $200 on Mercari and I love it “Speedy 30” date code 2/93 and just purchased a vintage Gucci doctor bag for $125 thinking it may be from the mid to late 80’s zipper is slightly messed up but it zips all the way down on both sides of the bag so zipping it from mid way both sides fixed that problem 😁... the outside is in good condition being it’s a vintage and the inside as well handles great just a few spots on the bottom corner I actually got a steal purchased it off Poshmark 😁

Girl you truly inspired me to go ahead and make the vintage purchase of this same exact bag . I had the Pochette Métis and when I wore it I felt the same exact way that you mentioned in another video , it felt very boxy and like a briefcase ,I guess I fell into more of the hype of the Pochette Métis than anything else . In the end it wasn’t the bag for me . I saw your video on the LV Saint Cloud gm with the strap change and I immediately went on a hunt for 1 from the 70’s in a condition and price I was willing to pay . Thank you for your help with what I messaged you , even before I had heard back from fashionphile with their answer you and another friend made me feel so much better about buying it . I trust fashionphile ,most other times the prices were way to high for the Saint Cloud ,but this was to good to pass up ,so I pulled the trigger and I used their reserve plan . I had never tried it before and wanted to see what it was like to pass the info on to my subscribers . I think it’s a great tool if someone just doesn’t have that large chunk of money all at once . I was also lucky to find the Saint Cloud gm on reserve from fashionphile ,my guess is because there were no date codes until the 80’s that most people shied away from my particular bag . I was worried for without even knowing the true history . I really don’t know much about LV vintage but I’m learning . Thanks for always making content with such helpful tips and tricks . 🎉🎉🎉

My Trocadero 27 has a sticky pocket and it is really sticky. I think it depends on the bag as some people experience flaking and some have a sticky pockets. Mine was definitely sticky, I cleaned it this morning as I use daily during this pandemic it's so easy to wear when driving and I love to skate in her, but I need those extra pockets for my lighter and cigarettes.

Well, you seem like the person to ask: I cleaned out my closet. In it, I found a few Fendi bags that I had inherited and forgotten about. (I know....I'm not a designer bag kind of person.) Both of them were in a plastic storage box. One of them had a dust cover. The other one did not. The one with the dust cover is in great shape. (Now I just have to properly ID the style to sell it.) But the other one was sticky. Like the PVC material it was made from was degrading. I don't know if you know what I mean. Did you ever have something that was made of a hard plastic with a rubbery surface (like a hairdryer or brush handle maybe), and over time of not being used, it felt sticky to the touch? That's what it feels like. I don't know what to clean it with or if anything will remove the stickiness without damaging the bag. It's the outside of the bag that is sticky. I don't know if it's salvageable. Any ideas?

I do this all the time! I only buy vintage bags too 🙂 you can get pure acetone in large bottles from hardware stores or something like that. I also wear a mask and gloves when I do this. You don’t want to inhale all those fumes.

Yes so like you actually have to peel the pocket apart as you clean it with the acetone! It deters a lot of people so I normally get them for a great price lol

I also find with vintage Gucci bags that the brown leather trim will get a bit worn. All it takes to fix it is a brown magic marker to fix it rub it in with your finger.

Hi! When you used the dish soap did you use water and the soap and put it on the brush and scrub the lining? I am trying to get the smell out of my speedy, but since the lining does not come out I am having a harder time. Please let me know if you have any suggestions for me!! xoxo

With the speedy, try turning it inside out! And I don’t think it matters if you put the soap on the surface or on the brush, it just depends on what you need for the particular bag

@@francescarose2925 they say newspaper works on smells. I have an Etro travel bag and am currently trying newspaper. Remember too the sun darkens the vachetta leather.

You can always ship your bags to purse rehab to get them cleaned and fixed. They are excellent with luxury designer items.

I’ve thought about that and there’s a few that I want to use. But this one I felt was relatively easy. I’ve heard great things about both purse rehab and leather surgeons. Have you used PR?

I have used purse rehab plenty of times. I just go there since it’s relatively close to where I reside. But I see shipments come and go all the time. The staff is super friendly and extremely knowledgeable. I recently took in my louboutins to have them sized to fit (they’re a whole size too large) and they did an excellent job. I have taken many of my high end bags for repair and cleaning and I’m always satisfied with their work. I’m picky and an extreme perfectionist and thankfully so is the owner! He won’t let anything leave his store until he’s happy with the work.

Vintage isn't for everyone! I actually work in resale, so I interact with preloved bags daily (that belonged to other people) and over time I guess I just got used to it! Plus I have always shopped resale/thrift/vintage.

Ohh i put like those small marbles gains inside the small pouch on my bag ... it made my bag smelling so good If i dont have a pouch i put it in ziplock and poke a small holes on the plastic bag using a toothpick

Nice video but can you slow down talking and take more time to show the items probably. I didn't get to see what you were speaking about the repair made on the Gucci. I would love to purchase form Ebay but I'm reluctant because items are sold by private sellers. I would love you to do a video on purchasing from private sellers.Thank you!
