The Stihl 545VM is my new lawn mower and I chose it as I have a lot of small to medium sized lawns and gardens. Its light enough to be picked up, tilted and manoeuvred around the garden but also powerful enough to handle those bigger gardens.

I’ve set my round specific to include ‘small garden day’. On that I take out a mountfield hp185 which only cost me 230 brand new last year. It’s not a professional mower but I think does a great job and only weighs 23kg for a petrol mower extremely light and easy to move. I know not everyone will agree but it works for me. I hammer it and don’t bother with servicing…..just sell it for 150 every 2 years and buy a new one 😂

I've started doing something very similar this year. Initially because I was recovering from a back injury but have stuck with the little mower a day a week for the tiny lawns and difficult access jobs.

I've got the Stihl 253 T and have been very impressed with it, bags really well and although it only has a 127cc engine because you can lift it quite high it deals with tall stuff surprisingly well. Very manoeuvrable and light and no effort going round tight spaces.

Hiya mate. I've had a Stihl RV 545 vr roller mower plastic it was brill for me lightweight excellent grass collection. I've battered it. And after 3years still got it she's slowing down now. But still use her on small lawns and cuts lovely

Have you ever considered battery electric? As an environmentalist Im a bit biast but I do find that theyre quieter (no need for ear defenders), they dont do any damge to your lungs and you can store the lawnmower anyway up you like!

From what I hear, battery mowers aren't quite upto it yet

just purchased the 453v this one has the side discharge, not properly tried it out yet, just a couple of test runs

The new 2024 Stihl mowers have side discharge and cut down to 20mm. Im running husqvarna and weibang mowers this year, maybe try Stihl when i change mowers next time.

Is the highest cutting height much higher than the Cobra that you have? I have the same and for uneven or really long stuff it can still struggle, like it needs to be just a notch higher

@ipodgooroo similar I'd say, probably slightly higher but you should be able to check the spec online and compare

I find it amazing how a gardener can get by using one mower. Ive got a few for different gardens. I bought a secondhand one specifically for one back garden. Difficult access, so i just leave it there. A roller mower for most of my "posh" gardens. A couple of mulchers. A small mountfield for small difficult gardens. And a three wheeler for orchards and cemetery work. Plus a couple of others which i bought brand new but don't use as they are poo. Toro being my worst purchase. 4 in 1? It doesn't do one thing well. Great to see gardeners using minimalist stuff but i just can't.

@@TheGreyGardener1990 I've learnt they're are no right way or wrong way to do something. If the result is good enough for the customer, then great. I like to take the easy option most times and that includes a lot of gear. Great vids. 👍

What Toro was that? I was looking at getting one.

@@Ben-fk9ey Toro Recycler 21inch. I've had the side shoot open, the back open and it still can't rid of the grass. It doesn't bag very well because the shoot is tiny and clogs up. As for recycling it clumps the grass and clogs underneath. I sent a message to Toro but wasn't replied back to. It was in B And Q reduced from £600 to £200 and I thought "What a bargain". I've used it in dry grass, wet grass, long grass, short grass and I'm really disappointed in it. I was given a Mountfield which out performs it by a mile. My mowers are Masport Rotarola. John Deere mulcher. Mountfield 19". A three wheeled contraption from Einhell which I use for orchards and graveyards. And a cheap and cheerful thing from Aldi or Lidl I use for dog poo small gardens. Especially ones with little access. Ive a couple others but don't use them unless I have breakdowns. A long reply I know.

how do you find the cutting height? i’ve found no 2 slightly to high so mostly i knock it down to no1 that is my only really issue with it but found that in most stihl mowers i have the roller version too and find that the same

Generally I'm between 2 and 3. Mostly 2. I use 1 for probably 2 lawns I cut. I don't like to go too low

thanks for your reply👍 i have such a variety of lawns some like it short others are full of moss so it’s higher for those some i use the cylinder mower one of the other comments says he has a variety of mowers can see why he does 👍

@jamosreef no worries mate. I'm the opposite. I have this one and my spare, I like less hassle but I totally get why people like different mowers for different lawns etc.

@@maintainyourgarden definitely mate considering there are i think 7 height settings one between 1and 2 would be better some of my lawns are probably lower than the 1 setting which is where those clients want it
