Stihl FS55 Line trimmer won't start after storage. 99% guarantee fix.

Күн бұрынIt seem that every year after I store my line trimmer which is a stihl fs55c. which has got to be 20 something years old it just won't start. first couple of years that I tried messing with it I rebuilt the carburetor I stuck it in cans of solvent and it didn't always work so I sent it to somebody to fix it and they replaced the carburetor and it works. So the past 5 or 10 years when I take my still out of storage to use it I try to start it if it doesn't start I take my backup carburetor off the shelf and replace the gummed up one with the new one. Which takes me maybe 40 minutes and I go about my business. the last one I bought was $17 and change and I had it in one day. but I always have a spare on the Shelf. There is a slight chance you may have electrical issues or whatever but if it's just from sitting in storage for 6 months it's going to be your carburetor.

I was fooling with my FS55R for 3 days!!!! Arm about to fall off from trying to crank this thing. Went on Amazon bout one of the “Hutlz” ? Carbs. Paid bout $13. Put it on with no adjustments. Started right up. It was packed with extra supplies also. Never again with the carb cleaner spray. I even got a cheapo carb on my riding lawnmower.

It's just the easiest and fastest way to take care of it. I bloodied my hand trying to start mine. Then just said EFF it. Replace carb and back to work.

I've put a new carburetor on mine, and it still won't start up. It has a spark going to the plug. Of course, the unit is turned on, but still nothing.

Yeah, that's the solution sometimes. But sometimes you live on an island and end up waiting a month. If you got the on the weekend, tear it apart. If you fail, then throw it out and order one. If you succeed you save money and you get back to work way faster... I'm saying this respectfully unlike my grandpa, who would probably be pretty rude about your opinion, lol.

What's the other 1%? I replaced mine this weekend and stihl (get it) not starting. Replaced the plug as well. Tonight I'll check the spark arrestor. This is the second time I've replaced the carb. Worked the first time.

Yeah spark arrestor could cause it. Or the actual exhaust port. The worst case scenario is you've got a bad piston in a cracked ring. Typically is just like any other engine it's fuel spark and oxygen. So if it's not getting enough oxygen it may not start or if it can't expel gases it may not start

That's a great tip that will save people a lot of time and $$! Hey what if when it gets put up for the winter just before you remove the carb and clean it before storage, then reinstall it in the spring? Is Jade hanging in there?(fingers crossed)

I thought about storing a carb in a can of solvent or gasoline. But I think if any gasoline is left inside where air can get to it and cause the leftover gasoline to polymerize or turn into a varnish the carburetor will be garbage. That's why I've decided to always keep a spare carb for it on the Shelf and if I can't get it going in the springtime or when I need it I just replaced the carburetor and order a new one to put on the Shelf. It's not worth my time to try to fix it or prepare for it being broken. I've looked into how to store and it doesn't work there's no way to remove all the leftover gasoline from inside the carburetor you probably have a 50% failure rate if you try to do it. I've had this weed trimmer for a long time and it is a money maker for me because I commercially remove weeds on Lots as an income. And I cannot afford to screw around with tinkering with these things.

Jade is actually doing great. The vet and myself are amazed. She was not expected to last this long. And the way she's acting she looks like she's going to last a long time still. I'm going to grab some video of her and put it up later on just to show how well she's doing.

Replacing the carburetor every year for the last 5 years, maybe you should just buy a new unit.

No I live in the mountains and we have a short growing season period so you end up storing your line trimmer for almost half a year. And it doesn't matter if you dump the old gas is still going to come up the carburetor. So it's easier to replace a carburetor for 15.00 that is to replace the almost $400 line trimmer. Get a grip buddy
