Bought one of these a few months ago, and couldn't be happier, especially for the price. And this is coming from a diehard gas trimmer guy! Had to move a couple times for work, and didn't have the space or need for my gas powered trimmer, so I sold it off. Got this for the new homestead, and it does the entire front yard - which is substantial - on one charge. Yeah, the blades wear pretty quick, primarily when edging...but they're readily available at my local Ace Hardware, so I can't complain too much. And it's footprint on the garage wall leaves loads of room for other toy...errrr...I mean, tools!!!

Thank you for this video. I just purchased this model a couple of weeks ago, and so far I'm really pleased with it--especially the ease in which one can change out the cutting blades--tons better than every poorly designed line-fed weed eater!!!! Ugh! I wasn't sure how to covert it from "weed whacker" to edger. Very beneficial video--I think I can do it!!! :)

I’ve had mine for nearly a couple of years now. Love the versatility. I use string more than the blades as they last longer & are more suited to edging near garden sleepers, but the blades are great for along footpaths/driveways (any concrete edge), they do wear fast though, but the battery lasts longer with the blades & they’re quieter than string, so they have a their significant benefits. The battery also takes a long time to charge which is frustrating because I live on a corner block & need one charge in between (using string), so I need to wait a couple of hours before I can finish off my lawn…though I’m used to this now & think the positives outweigh the negatives on the FSA 45 👍🏼

@@WesternEquipment Cool. I’ve tried 3 types: Stihl 1.6mm, Stihl 2mm, & Diamond Edge (3rd party brand from Stihl store) 1.7mm. The 1.6mm is the best all rounder & I use it mostly. The 1.7mm is noisier but I think if anything slightly more durable with longer/thicker grass. The 2mm is great for creating wider gaps, but feeding it into the machine is harder as 2mm is the limit for this unit. I think the 2mm was the least durable of the three also.

how do these bladed preform in corners? with string, you tend to be able to push it in and just about get it but i image the blades don't allow for this?

how's the cut of the leaf? Is it better with the blades rather than the string? I'm looking to see for healthier grass, and I believe the blades could help better to keep a cleaner cut. Do you have any comments on this issue?
@WesternEquipment
@WesternEquipment Жыл бұрын
Out here where we mainly have Bermuda, it is hard to notice much difference in the actual leaf cut so it is hard to say. I do know from watching other videos and doing research that blades generally have a smoother cut because it is actually cutting the leaf rather than ripping or tearing it like string does.

How do I switch to a line feed if I want to. I was told when I bought mine that you could put a line feed on it. Can’t figure out how to do that.

There is not an actual line feed head for this model but you can put pre cut line pieces on this head. I hope this helps and thanks for watching!

Hi. This may be a stupid question, but do these blades end up adding to microplastics in the environment? That is the reason I do not want to use the string style. Thanks.

With the FSA57 you will get longer battery life, the unit overall is longer and bigger, you get a reloadable string head, and the option to have multiple batteries. Thanks for watching!

I bought one of these for my mom for mothers day, in 10 minutes it stopped running because it got hot, she had to change the blades twice before the battery died, and all she did was an area half the size of the grass you cut, total junk

Hi, Melissa: It really is "gal friendly." I bought the Kombi system with the weed whacker attachment. With the battery etc., it's really heavy, and I hate having to rethread the cutting line. I went back to the Stihl dealership and purchased the ...45. It's so simple and easy to use. The blades are easy to change out as they wear down, and it's so light weight and really does the job.

Works great but the blades are total garbage! I have had mine for 2 years now. Do not buy, stick with the string unless you enjoy changing the BROKEN blades every few minutes and enjoy picking orange plastic broken blades up all over the yard when you are done. I am hoping they will offer some kind of conversion from the blades to string.
@WesternEquipment
@WesternEquipment 2 жыл бұрын
I had this same problem with the blades until I started soaking them in water. This is actually recommended on the package that they come in. You can use string on this head but the string has to be cut in pieces and threaded into the head individually. Thanks for watching!

You should learn how to use it before making video. Flip down that metal guard and it limits how far knives cut so you don't destroy knives in five minutes. They dont scrape bricks and branches because guard keeps the limit.
@WesternEquipment
@WesternEquipment Жыл бұрын
This is true but once the blades wear, then it restricts you from cutting anything. Therefore I do not use the safety so I could show full use of the unit.
