Your maintenance of your saws is a breath of fresh air. I only got into chainsaws and 2 cycle engines this past summer. Having come from technologies where dirt is a four letter word, plus lots of automotive work, it drives me nuts watching hours of rebuilds where precision bearings are 5 - 10mm away from clumps of MUD. You are a true professional and treat your equipment as it should be. I do stop short, however, at sunscreen on the saw on the beach ;)

The hole that is in the middle of the sprocket gear is made for a pointed grease gun to fit and lube the main drive gear bearing as are most chain bars (look for a small hole on both sides of the bar on the sprocket end, insert the grease gun there and push until you see grease come out of the chain slot). Grease both sides of the sprocket wheel as well as the main drive gear as often as you can to avoid premature failure. The grease guns are available from any chain saw dealer or repair shop. Arizona wildland firefighter and sawyer.

Love the content. When do a full cleaning like you did I usually clean the exhaust spark arrestor screen as well. However one thing I've forgotten for awhile is to check and grease the sprocket bearing cage. Thanks for the reminder.

That's a thorough cleaning job! I like it. Especially that you cleaned around the flywheel. Which helps the airflow to the engine and filter. Get yourself a 8mm open ended wrench, might be less awkward getting those lockouts off. Also, if you have the new HD air filter(white material), shine a light thru it after cleaning it and make sure they are clean. Blowing air thru them won't get all the dust out and you can't tell on the older style filters. Enjoy your videos.

Hi Felixia, I am pretty sure I have seen this tutorial before and as always I love to watch and learn from you. I found it again because I recently wound up buying 3 used saws and one is a 261. The other 2 are a 193 and a 201TC. My saws now range from the 193, 201, 026's, an 044, 660 and now this 261, and my 3 muscle Stihls, 051 and 2- 075's. Soon it will be time for me to prune about 10 trees and fell another 5 before Winter hits with snow, or Spring brings the new leaves. All my best to you and Merry Christmas.

Nice 👍 ... looks like the cat is watching for birds ! I use a cloth over the rim when removing e-clip , that way it doesn’t go shooting across the shop and I lose it !

Maintaining your tools is a good idea. I just found 3 lose screws a fuel Leck and a cracked pipe on my STIHL bg86c.👍

Very thorough. Dead on about the oiler and oil flow. Clean is good.

I cant remember if Stihl has it, but some says have a grease hole for the needle bearings. It’s the hole in the middle of the drive shaft. This way if you have been going hard non-stop. You can put pump a spot of grease in there without taking it apart. Just a thought. Thanks for sharing what you do. It’s amazing.

Why? Also, how is the Courant harness? Do you like it better than the Notch Sentinel? I am now climbing with the Treemotion Evo harness. So far it's very nice. I tried Notch Sentinel, but the Treemotion is more comfortable to me.

I just found a new tool that you might be interested. Have you heard about the smart connector of Stihl? The little device calculate how many hours your machine ran. Hi Get an air compressor that can 10 bar air pressure to thoroughly clean your saw! :) (I do too) if I stubbornly use the dirt brake cleaner ... It washes out the dirt in hard to reach places! For example, for the part under the clutch I like your videos 👍😁

I´m impressed with your way of keeping working tools clean :) However all gunk doesn´t always come off easily so do you use other than house cleaning liguids?

Hi there,loving your content. Just bought an Echo 2511 to replace my Stihl 194T for trimming and prunning . I don't have any other saw for removals(just an 271),and the 194 is underpowered sometimes. Yesterday i sold the 194 to a coworker and i'm looking to buy a 201TC ....but found the 261C at the same price. Would you recommend buying the 261 for using it in the tree(for removal),or buy the 201TC? I know ideally i should have both,but i don't have the money now,and I'm not a full time arborist....i'm a full time rope access technician which also does tree work when necessary. Thank you.

Thanks for the great video. I've had an MS261 for two years now and I love it. It was a step up from my MS 250 and well worth it. Can you tell me what the brown circular part with the recessed center does? It's located below the chain sprocket and toward the rear of the saw. There's also a curved wire in that area that I'm curious about too. Thanks.
