The Stihl RG-KM reciprocator attachment is a fairly new offering from Stihl. I decided to try these for a couple of reasons. First, I already had a Stihl Kombi head unit that I've owned for over a decade. Secondly, I have a pool and wanted something that did not sling grass debris into it.

If you have a Kombi head or want to get into them then these are nice. I’ve had the Kombi head for over 10 years and love it with all the attachments. Hope to get the Kombi battery head… on my wishlist. That Japanese rotary head is great if you are invested in the Ego line or similar. Thanks for watching!! 👍😎⛳️

Thanks, buddy, I used to hate trimming around the pool, wife would fuss at me for getting grass in the pool. 🤣 Then I’d have to vacuum… the drill. 😂 Yeah, we just put in a new liner. I went with the darkest blue they had. Thanks for watching! 👍😎

This is a proper review! If only I found it before buying this expensive tool. I use it with battery powered KMA 130 R (power supply through cable), where center of gravity is even further to the front. I was about to return everything, but decided to try it with an extended handle, similar to what you are using, and it works like a miracle! The trimmer itself is a great product, and the assembly with battery powered motor is very lite, but like you mentioned, the tool angle and center of gravity is totally weird. Stihl definitely earned one big black dot in my book.

Great, informative video for someone (me) who only uses a string trimmer and edger for my crisp lines. I'm debating purchasing this attachment. I'm currently researching how to get crisp lines on the front of my lawn up next to the asphalt. It doesn't have a curb. In this video it appears you've got the same situation and a pretty straight line over there. Do you have a video in your library that displays your technique and equipment for this task?

Thanks! I actually use a string trimmer to keep that line on the rock beds. I mostly use the reciprocator to hit those spots I don't take the reel mower and also around the pool so it doesn't throw grass/debris in the pool.

What kind of rocks did you use as your mulch? Looks nice and how many bags or pallets of rocks did you use to fill it up?

They are locally sourced river rock from a supplier not to far from my house. I had them dump roughly 4 yards of them on the side of my property and used a pull cart on the back of my mower. Hard work! Most bags are .5 cubic feet so, in bags, that would be about 216 bags (if my math is correct) - that's a lot.

Nice rock beds! I am looking to do this project. Did you place landscape fabric under the rocks or do you place the rocks directly on the soil? Thanks!

Is the Stihl quieter than the Idech/Sten powary rotary scissors? Is the Darwin grip angle adjustable?

Not sure if they are quieter. Yes, the Darwin grip is fully adjustable in all directions.

What does the Darwin and the Stihl attachment run $?

I honestly can’t remember. Maybe $350 for the attachment and $60 for the grip.

I just bought this. I totally agree is is unusable without the darwin grip. The head angle or shaft length is designed for someone only 5 feet tall. What a terrible design stihl. i rang stihl australia to ask to speak to the technical department about the design. NO you must go back to dealer and complain to the guy who sold it. Why? he didn't design it.

Yep, I almost don’t like how they hide behind their dealer network. Great tool, but a bit flawed in the design.
