Too be honest, I cried a little bit at that last part, not because I could completly relate but because I could feel it. I am pretty much more like the MC in genshiken. I had no confidence, and people were pretty much repelled by my lack of charizma, or thats what I thought. I never talked to people, and its still hard too. Its my fault. Its also like I can't accept that my hobbies are weird, and could turn people off. I love anime, I collect floopy disks, I do radio stuff, and I constantly hide that from people because I think they will judge me. I suppose I can change what I can change and the rest is what I make of it. I love your content, its interesting and thought provoking.

Digi these recent videos are really getting to me in a way nothing really has before. It's inspirational to hear yourself - a normal ass dude like me - being so self aware and wise. It makes me feel a lot better about my own writing and my likes and hobbies, and the impermanence of it all.

I'd probably be just like Digi if I ever actually gave a fuck about people. I'm far to easily satisfied just KNOWING someone I don't hate completely let alone having friends who mostly understand me now.

I watched K-on after hearing this dude jazz on it for years. Def my favorite anime now, and I picked up the bass after watching the show. Digi, you're always so genuine in your vids that even though I feel like your personality would rub me the wrong way if I met you in person, I whole-heartedly appreciate and respect you being so hard-core yourself. Well this could be a long comment or a short one, so I picked the easiest for both of us. I would like to say thank you and I love your videos. There is a resonance between us and others that watch your channel and I find it reassuring that you are somewhat like me in this video. They way you talked about rejection because of ones own fault in understand of true priorities but in a way its their fault for not understand or willing to understand you. I found myself in the same situation in my youth too. I still reject people today as that is the only way I can go on without caring for others. I don't know why but I like the deconstruction videos. Its shows us who you are and willing to open up in a way but it shows us a way of thinking to and I like that. I like the general person that you are and your videos. Keep up the good work.

I vivdly remember going to my shelf and opening Akira volume 2 and thinking just how funny this scene is, but I knew absolutely nobody I knew would get why its so great, or what genshiken is, or have even read the Alkira manga

Madarame realizing he has fallen hard for Saki and not knowing what to do with it is one of THE most heartbreaking moments in all anime. I wish there were more down-to-earth shows about Otaku as people, without the fantasy wish-fullfilment nonsense.

In the parallel universe of Spotted flower, the main character (Madarame?) also breaks his hand... I think that anybody who loves Genshiken must read that manga.

Haha, sounds like we both climbed out of the same holes. I was rejected for a long time in school, and always wanted to prove my self worth to people because I thought that if they didn't like me for whatever reason, it meant I wasn't worth anything, like I was inherently bad. I would try and be the smartest, entering chess club, acing tests, and bragging about my IQ test, and ended up driving people away. It took a while, and some very cool people for me to understand why I needed to accept myself rather than try and get others to accept me, and sharing that experience has helped others out of that hole as well. Thanks for the cool video Digi.

The one thing that kind of threw me off was that they gave these guys a whole different design makeover in the ova the second season and the nidaime season. I got use to them like this until I saw their new look. Lol.

I didn't read the manga but I did watch the show I remember when I first started thinking I'm not that bad an otaku I'm pretty grounded not really that hardcore but then as I watched more episodes and found myself not only getting most of what they were referencing but seeing them do things that either I had done or would consider doing I had to wake up and realize how much of an otaku I really was even though I wasn't into manga, weird pillows, or cosplay even though I highly admired cosplay from a distance and loved taking pictures with them I would like to think of this show as an otaku barometer because of that and encourage all to see it, after all the one thing no one should ever be is a closet otaku

Perhaps it's not exactly the same as referencing Akira upon injuring one's hand, but many years ago I found myself making an honest attempt to be a salaryman, working in an office. One of the reasons I got the job was because my cousin and his wife were friends with the manager, so they put in a good word for me. Fast forward several months later and the topic came up in conversation that my cousin's wife was pregnant and they were thinking about names for the baby. My manager innocently enough asked me if I had any suggestions. Well, I figured I might never again get this kind of an opportunity to reference a line from Evangelion and I knew I'd instantly regret it if I passed up the chance. I looked my boss straight in the eyes and told her, "If it's a boy, Shinji. If it's a girl, Rei." I was painfully aware that no one in the entire company had ever even heard of anime and that I'd be outing myself as an otaku, but I did it regardless. My boss walked away looking appropriately confused and I proceeded to spend the next few minutes explaining to any and all co-workers within earshot of my cubicle the reasons why I decided to quote this line and what a tragedy it was (from my point of view) that nobody understood the sub-reference. I can't be entirely certain, but it's possible that the phrases, "I'm working with a bunch of heathens," and "You know, it's not easy being me," were utilized to support my follow-up rant.
