Some may not accept it, but I love this and it's a wonderful decision the two of them have made to work together. I love them both and I don't quite know what to expect when my two biggest heroes collaborate oh wow! Sting is a God and Gabriel is a God musically, but what intrigues me most is that neither are egomaniacs without a sense of humor and also that both are true artists. I love Peter Gabriel and this is funny because I can put him and Sting together in my mind and I just found out about their collaboration right now. I think both look older sure, but it will not deter them. Now I know that Genesis will never reform again and sad as that is I believe it was the right choice in the end. For years I couldn't swallow it kept hoping one day they'd patch it all up again, but with personal issues that big it would never have happened. So don't complain that Gabriel and Genesis should be going on tour instead, because that will never and could never happen. Rock Paper Scissors is a lot wiser.

It is interesting, but as Sting has said, after all that brainstorming, what if they do something new, something different from covers of each other.... They have musicians, they have tools, they have creativity to do the best that they can.... I hope that some new songs could come out from these two geniuses

For me, two musicians of respect. I think that, when one shares some with other musician, both get influence, one from each other, cause one know another style, and takes some of it. It's like a kind of retro-feedback... ( I see it on this way, maybe wrong, but you maybe right....)

+Leslie Pouzadoux Hmmm, Phil's had a lot of luck though don't you think? He's not the greatest of singers by any means and I don't know what happened to his song-writing, but I haven't bought any of his output since "Both Sides". I did like him in Genesis though when it was just the 3 of them.
@MALONEYCAMFIELD
@MALONEYCAMFIELD 8 жыл бұрын
+Leslie Pouzadoux Phil Collins is not middle-of-the-road. He IS the middle-of-the-road. He's the very definition of it. He's a laughing stock for most people. And quite frankly, McCartney hasn't been that brilliant since leaving the Beatles. He needed Lennon to be truly great.
@MALONEYCAMFIELD
@MALONEYCAMFIELD 8 жыл бұрын
+Nick Searle Phil Collins is indeed very limited as a singer-songwriter. He can do bland formulaic overproduced ballads but can't do much else. Unless you think Sussudio is a classic.
@MALONEYCAMFIELD
@MALONEYCAMFIELD 8 жыл бұрын
To be fair to Clapton and Knopfler, at least in the '90s they went back to basics musically and distanced themselves from the slickly produced '80s pop stuff that had made them money but seen them shredded by critics. Clapton went back to his first love, the blues, and Knopfler actually made a conscious decision to wrap up Dire Straits while they were still packing stadiums and decided to do things much more low-key. They deserve credit for that.

+Elaine S I'm convinced this is Sting's bid to try and join Gabriel in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a solo artist by cosying up to him. Sting's got shitloads of money and household name status but Gabriel's got the critical respect. I never hear anyone say anything good about Sting, he's almost as panned as Phil Collins.
