As promised, here in Part Two of the Stinson L-1 "Kermie Cam", we will finally take flight. You'll get a birds eye view from the cockpit, I'll point out some of the things that I pay attention to when flying the L-1, then we'll do a slow pass or two, and see how she does overall. Come on along for the ride.

Regarding the 45° AOA and the 70% (0.7) in part I, Kermit was spot on, sine of 45° is 0.707 (1/square root of 2). I would very much like another P-51 (B or D) Kermit Cam also possibly also with a second hooked cam in the cockpit, and showing what she goes speed wise at continuos power (46" and 2600 RPM) the setup in this was just marvelous, the thing with oil collecting in the Cyls was also very enlightening. As always the airplane's fantastic restoration is just breathtaking.

@angelreading5098
@angelreading5098 4 жыл бұрын
I enjoyed that flight as much as you did Kermit ! what a machine the Vultee Vigiliant is ( RAF name on those lease lend examples we had ) ,you were working hard on those enormous flaps and I think once you have flown this wonderful beast of a machine a few times then you will be landing it in a few feet,the immaculate restoration is evident and the sound of that radial music to my ears,you say long grass but I bet these have taken off on far worse makeshift runways,it seems heavier on the controls than a Storch but I would imagine on a cross country flight would trim out nicely to ease pilot handling. So the slats come out automatically at low speeds and seem to really grab the airflow around the leading edge,this really is a belt and braces AOP machine built to do a specific job,a rare bird that I know you will continue to enjoy and look after,next time that you go to see your Lockheed Vega restoration why not use this as your taxi !

5:33 - you can see the slats closing. Fantastic explanations, camera work, and unrushed presentations, as usual. I'm a pilot and I love always learning all sorts of new bits and pieces about things that "we others" would never learn or see from these people. Pointing at things while on the ground, and in the air, while constantly talking about it makes all the difference. Thanks again! Zenith 701 & ASW19 maniac & Weeks junkie

I used to gaze up and watch the C-119's flying over our house, toward the southwest and Dayton, ( Wright Pat ) and dream about what it would be like! When you waved down to the traffic below, some kid started gleefully telling his Mom and Dad, " There really was a man in that plane that waved at me...I know what I saw!" And then that's when the Airfoils start sticking out the windows and the imagination begins! Bravo Sir, and here's another salute to you for a fine flight! Poor Connie, grazing at the end of the strip and watching as her little brothers hop up from the ground and take to the air where she once was the Queen! Hey Kermit....I just thought of something that would be really cool. That is if you sat down with a glass of N n' J and made a video of you telling of some of your meetings of the famous flyer's you have met over the years! would love to hear em'!
