Stipe Miocic who was born on August 19th, 1982 is an American professional mixed martial artist and Firefighter-Paramedic of Croatian descent. He is currently the heavyweight champion of the world in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), where he competes since 2011 in the heavyweight division and became a two-time UFC Heavyweight Champion. During his first reign, he defended his championship three times, holding the record for most consecutive title defenses in the history of the UFC heavyweight division. He is considered by many to be the best heavyweight mixed martial artist in UFC and MMA history. As of August 5, 2019, he is #11 in official UFC pound-for-pound rankings and #1 in official UFC heavyweight rankings.
For his fourth title defense, Miocic faced UFC Light heavyweight Champion Daniel Cormier on July 7, 2018, in the main event at UFC 226. The champion vs. champion matchup was billed as "The Superfight". Miocic was the favorite heading into the bout, mainly due to his natural size and power advantage as well as his dangerous striking on the feet. He lost the fight in shocking fashion via knockout in the first round, ending the longest heavyweight title reign in UFC history. A rematch between Miocic and Daniel Cormier took place on August 17, 2019, at UFC 241 for the UFC Heavyweight Championship. Miocic won the fight by TKO in the fourth round reclaiming the title. This win earned him the Performance of the Night award.
