Stipe was exactly what Francis needed to humble him down to baseline, Francis was in his core a humble African dude that didn't have much and was grateful for everything. But America changed him, as he kept winning fights easily and getting constantly praised by hype men that formed around him he got cocky and lost his humbleness thinking he was unstoppable. @@vitomacukic9577 There's multiple factors that go into "roots" and I promise you, growing up in the American midwest is just as much of his roots as his Croatian heritage. I say this as a Croatian-American also from the midwest. We have a crazy hard work ethic here. And it shows in Stipe.

Stipe beating him changed him completely. Even now that he knocked Stipe out he still respects him a lot. There was one interview where someone asked Francis who he thinks is the best heavyweight (besides him) Jon Jones or Cyril Gane and Francis was like “what about Stipe?? He beat me.”
