This pattern is a wonderful One Row repeat, we make our base row then work the popular Moss stitch in a ripple pattern across Row 2, Row 2 will be your repeat row. Fun easy pattern.

I'm making a mood blanket and was going to use the moss stitch since I need to do 365 rows. Realized I was probably going to get bored of doing plain rows so I'm so glad I found this.

Can I ask how many chains u did, I’m making a temperature blanket and not sure how many chains to do
@LostApotheosis
@LostApotheosis Жыл бұрын
@@soulavarsamakis4223 you’ll want to do a gauge swatch. There’s lots of tutorials on this, but pick your stitch, then chain up enough for five inches and write down the number of chains. After that, work your stitch as you would normally, counting the rows, until it measures five inches long and five inches wide. Divide the rows by 5 and you’ll get the average number of rows per inch. So if you have 25 rows it will be 5 rows per inch. Do the same thing for your chains. After that you can divide the number of needed rows by your average rows per inch. So 365 divided by 5 would be 72.That’s how many inches long your blanket would be. Then you have to decide how wide you would want it to be so it’s proportional. There are good recommendations for blanket dimensions, but let’s assume you want the blanket to be 60 inches wide. You want to take your average chains per inch, which we’ll say is 4 and multiply that by the number of inches wanted. So 4 times 60 would be 240 chains. Everyone’s stitch gauge is a little different depending on yarn, hooks used, and the tension they crochet with. I crochet really tight, but a lot of people crochet much looser. A gauge swatch is the best way to determine how big a project is going to be. A lot of people don’t do them and end up with a weirdly skinny blanket. Like I said though, there are a lot of great tutorials for how to do a swatch and I would be happy to answer any questions or give advice if you need it. I hope you enjoy making your temperature blanket! It’s a really rewarding project.

Boy is that stunning! I don’t usually use variegated or self-striving yarn with a complicated pattern. I guess the Ripple stitch is basic enough that it doesn’t detract from the beautiful color changes. Really nice. I will play around with this with some Red Heart Hello Gorgeous yarn I have. Thank you. I love the look of Ice Yarns, but their web page is sooo busy, and not organized (maybe it’s just me).It’s really hard to find what you want. I love Puzzle yarn. I’m dying to make a cardigan out of it!

Hi Glenda thank you so much for explaining this on how to measure the length. A friend of mine wants me to make her a blanket from pound of love to fit a double bed. Question is how many inches do I make for hanging down the sides? This will be my biggest project and I'm still learning how to crochet. Many thanks for all your wonderful teaching.

When I'm confused, I write out the pattern onto index cards in my own words. I'll break up the pattern into sections: row begin, uphill, peak, downhill, row end. Sometimes I'll draw it out, making a bunch of little ovals next to each other as the chain stitches, then point to what goes into each stitch, such as: chain over, sc, chain over, sc, etc.) Another trick- try it with a large hook and thick yarn so you can see what you're doing - which is the chain one space, and which is the sc. Once you figure it out, you can move to a smaller yarn size and smaller hook. Hth!

Hello Glenda why do you use sc stitch? can't we use double to triple crochet?
@triciamiscia
@triciamiscia 4 жыл бұрын
Susankay because this is a ripple pattern using the “Moss” stitch which is made using single crochet and chain 1, single crochet in the ch1 space in subsequent row. To use a double or treble crochet would change the pattern and not result in a “moss stitch pattern “ look. In other words you would get a completely different pattern and thus completely different look.
@Katatawnic
@Katatawnic 4 жыл бұрын
You can do ripples with a dc or hdc, but this is specifically the moss stitch.
@CreativeGrandma
@CreativeGrandma 4 жыл бұрын
Moss stitch is a sc pattern, using the other stitches would change it and not be moss stitch any longer. You can try to use the other stitches but it would not be a moss stitch

Since you do a sc2to at the begining and end of each row how do you not end up reducing your project down to nothing if your doing an afgan or blanket. Am I overthinking it? Novice here. Lol.
@d.s.7212
@d.s.7212 Жыл бұрын
Unless I've misunderstood, I don't think you're really reducing a stitch. I think the first stitch is simply a sturdy end stitch so the blanket edges don't roll. You are making the first stitch of your uphill journey, lol. Instead of just putting a sc in that open chain window, you're putting in a sturdy stitch using the chain window and the first crochet. The rest of the time, you're skipping over the sc. Similar at the end.

Glenda I see on some other chanels they have been crocheting surgical masks or dust masks as some call them,,,,I know you are good at designing. do you think you could design one??? I think in the future we will all wear surgical masks all winter its silly but sad
@CreativeGrandma

Susan unfortunately I am not sure how safe a crocheted mask would be, my understanding a crochet mask can be more harmful then good. This is based on all the information I am hearing about the virus and what to use and not use.
