It's pretty useful to add a time index. Considering how old this video is, weird none has suggested it. 1:00 - Queens Gambit Accepted 7:20 - Queens Gambit Declined 9:40 - King Pawn - Italian Game (bishop C4) 12:10 - QGD 16:10 - QGD, Slav Defence 17:05 - Slav Defence, Exchange variation 27:25 - Kings Indian Defence 32:05 - Nice KID trap against black 35:10 - QG, Grunfeld defense (no just kidding, re-look through KID) 44:10 - Summarizing the openings he has gone through. 45:35 - Some basic tactical positions (forking, back rank etc) Important Points: Get center control, (normally) develop knights first. (*cough* not both in Carlsbad though) IN QGD (and kings Indian) white dark squared Bishop=G5 while Slav=F4, Whites white squared bishop in QGD and Slav=D3 while Kings indian=E2 Develop all major pieces before starting an attack (unless there are obvious targets/tactics...) You Want rooks on open files if possible. Don't let your pieces stand on passive spots. Try to get Bishops out before you block them inside the pawns. My thoughts: Very nice beginner walkthrough of the QG overall. But very little of E4 I think. (considering it's openings and tactics, and not titled "Queens Gambit openings and tactics". QG is often has a much more positional and slow paced game than E4, which is often more tactical. I personally often resort to QG against obvious stronger players than myself. (when I'm white). Meanwhile E4 when we are more even or other way around. Still never underestimating.

Akobian does a lot of things great. He's patient with the kids. Encourages the slower kids to answer, instead of just calling on the couple who know all the answers. He repeats and reminds frequently. If I had to find a critique it would be in showing the names and mainlines, but not always explaining WHY. Better to know why a bishop belongs on a particular square than just that this is where it belongs in a particular opening. He definitely does some of this, but probably could have made a few more points. Good video altogether. I wonder if his sequel got uploaded.
@user-jj1hf1pc2d8 жыл бұрын
Mike Garner >but not always explaining WHY Well... Problem is that its actually much harder. Especially for kids. I used to learn chess in that age, so i can tell you - its VERY... I dont know, boring? Because its very hard to have interest in game where teacher just show those opening and tell this "just remember that bishop belongs to e3". And you came out with idea, that chess is about executing those ideas of others people. And you lose passion. That's very bad, BUT! Nowadays i understand that is maybe only way. You just need to know this, understanding will come later. Kids dont have it, they see a lot of pieces and just doesn't know what to do, dont have any idea. And if you will try to explain WHY they just will not know WHEN.
@riteshmohanty95117 жыл бұрын
Is there any other video on youtube which explains these kind of ideas, like why bishop belongs to a certain square and all..

@SparksMagoo10 жыл бұрын
Maybe the kids would be better served opening "a notebook" and writing them down? You can't take him or a blackboard home. That is why God invented a #2 pencil on the fourth day and paper on the sixth (the fifth day he had to invent an eraser. Stupid humans and their mistakes). It is a teachers job to teach and the students job to get the material being taught. How you do so is up to you, the teacher already has their notes and lesson plan written down, no need to write it again in this kind of setting.It's too simple to take the notes. Some of the kids got smart and saw how he was presenting and reviewing his lessons and later started writing them down. Me too!

At the end of the development this D3 bishop is more active than the black bishop and give a slight advantage. 27:54 - King's indian defense - Smyslov-Petrosian System Bishop on E2 White trap: black may try to capture the bishop on G5. May result in a check mate. Genaral tips: - overall: knights before beshops - do not attack before every pieces have been developped.

For all the carpers here -- and as usual there seem to be lots of them --- it is important to learn the basics before deviating from them in real game situations. This is one of the best videos for doing that that I have come across. Also, for those who ask what happens if the opponent does not follow through on the expected moves, as a few people have commented, that means your opponent is putting himself/herself in a vulnerable position and you need to identify the weakness to your advantage.

This man has an awful lot of patience asking these type of questions. I would've lost it if i would ask something 3 times, and still no one would have remembered.

This is one of your best videos. Excellent educator. I appreciate all your GMs, but this was outstanding. Grandmaster Varuzhan Akobian could apply his teaching formula to ANY concept. Thank you.
