Fascinating to see this, 15 years later in 2024 and appreciate the skills and planning deployed at the time. Nostalgic to see nine-car Pendolino units before the lengthening. Great film. We regularly use the Alderley bypass - definitely a great capacity improvement for the A34.

This is one of the best time-lapse video I’ve seen on KZfaq. Beautifully framed panoramic shots, the long night-time sequences were phantasmagoric, a mix of Fellini and Bruegel. Each scene composed with a painter’s eye for light and shadow. It’s a visual feast, my eyes were magnetically drawn to all and sundry lest I miss something. Special treat - have a look at the shower of sparks from welders torches around the 4:00 or 5:00 minute mark. Also gratifying to see the bridge in use at the end - a rare treat from the video folks who made this for the construction company - their videos tend to end a little too abruptly and prematurely. But definitely in a class of their own. Good job guys.

To the prime contractor on this old job. Congratulations on a successful job, lot of prep work on this job. I'm retired now as a locomotive engineer but remember getting called out on a work train less than 6 hours before the main reopened from an 1892 bridge replacement project non electrified line. I got called out because the 600 cfm air compressor threw a rod through the engine block and I got sent there with 47 Divco air dump cars full of new ballast and upon arriving on site they had two 3/4 inch air lines laid out ready to hook up to the locomotive main resivour line connection. It was quiet when I arrived there though less than a minute after the air lines were hooked up no less than 15 compressed air powered compactors started up. The two 3/4 inch line fed a 800 gallon air tank. Just sat there for 5 hours in the 4th notch pumping air. I was told nearest 600 air compressor was 1800 miles away. Interesting night. Request, next time you do a job like this kindly think about using two cameras, one shooting real time and the other like this one was probably setup to shoot one frame a second. Thanks for posting the job, I enjoyed it. Cheers!

Incredible job...editing out all those tea breaks. Just kidding. It's fascinating to see something taken for granted and the amount of work behind it. It looks like a logistical nightmare.

What is the weight of the bridge and its approximate cost? Is it all steel box girders? Girders supplied by Fairfield Mabey Chepstow perhaps?

seems to be a lot of work for such a low clearance bridge. what goes under it? does it cross a road? i can think of many ways to get a bridge built with less people, less machinery and less takeover time. it would require more pre-takeover work that does not disturb train traffic.

I was thinking the same thing! If they didn't want to build the hight any higher, they could have at least dug the road or path under it deeper!
