Check this out! For those who know what FAST is you'll this isn't anything out of the ordinary, for those that don't you will be shocked! A couple stock appearing cars went to the FAST Racing Series event in Martin Michigan and shocked a lot of people! The orange 69 ZL1 Camaro clicked off a 9.66 142 right off the trailer! After some changes the 1969 L88 Corvette went a unbelievable 9.45 145mph! These cars are all stock appearing with factory exhaust manifolds, full 2 1/2 exhaust, and no nitrous! I have been following FAST racing since Dudek's Road Runner ran the Mustang at Cecil county raceway in Maryland. I always look forward to the series coming to our home track MIR in the fall. I was there and could not believe my eyes when the Cuda ran that 9.776 last fall..... Those cars are wicked fast on those skinny bias ply tires. Imagine if you could go back in time and race these same cars against Sox and Martin, Dick Landy, Grumpy Jenkins and more racers, you would take all their money. They only ran tens with huge slicks and custom headers. Technology has come leaps and bounds. Please, please, keep up the pursuit of performance. Trying to make Detroit's vehicles better and faster is an art. I love this class, it showcases the best cars on this planet.

Really neat hot rods. You all should check out NHRA Super Stock cars. They look like street cars by rule, engines have limitations to what can be done. They are allowed open headers and drag radials up to 14.5 inches wide. I’ve been involved with Corvettes since 1982 and had the first one to go in the 8’s at Bradenton Fla. in 1994 as a SS/CA at 3500 lbs. I know of two Vettes that have run 8.50’s at 3100 lbs. as 1969 L-88 cars in the SS/AA class at 3100 lbs, with 1.15 60 ft times.

I’ve always loved the sleeper look! The Camaro is just awesome. Man it would surprise A LOT of people. Notice some nay saying about running 9s with manifolds but why not? Which begs the question what would it do with headers? Grumpy Jenkins and Dick Harrell would be proud!

I’d love to put a set of headers and a good tire on it I bet it it’s got an 8.70 in it pretty easily with headers, good tires, and some traction bars. Maybe we can do that for fun at the end of the season.

Awesome video! I’m a Mopar guy and have been a fan of F.A.S.T. for years, I like the rivalry, hopefully all you guys are buds. I assume and probably obvious that ‘track prep’ is super critical but it’s still amazing how fast you guys go. And YES, please more videos. I’ve been saying for years that there’s not enough coverage of this racing and behind the scenes stuff. Anyway, great job and good luck!

Amazing that those Firestones actually hook up. Even more amazing is that red Corvette pulled the front wheels with street tires...I wonder if they are softer rubber than back in the 60s-70s? Have you ever had any luck with Goodyear Polyglass? Cool that you smoked that Mopar and out of pure horsepower after a slower start.
@HorsepowerDepot
@HorsepowerDepot 2 жыл бұрын
We’ve ran the firestones and have luck with them so haven’t tried the Goodyears in a while. Other racers have good luck with the Goodyears. And yeah rubber is way softer than they were back in the 60-70s.

The opening sound of both cars was great, but I must say the sound of the Corvette [imo], was better simply b/c of its lower/heavy tone; almost as if it wasn't carrying an engine within f.a.s.t. guidelines. Btw; clearly you know best, but it would be great to see a 70' W30 maxed out like these have been. The "W machine" is one of, if not my favorite muscle car from the 1955 thru 1970 era. Maybe I'll see ya some day; I'm just down the road mins from U.S. 131 strip. Btw *great video.*

I had the roll bar in my 1970 Olds 442 done this way in respect for this series. Laid back main hoop to match the quarter window seal, rear down bars follow the c pillar into the trunk and wide apart so almost invisible from side or rear or any angle for that matter. Really have to be looking to see it. The chromolly 1 5/8 bars are overkill for a 6point bar but smaller tubes look better than traditional 1 3/4 tubing. The rollbar was built by Steve Grebeck, RIP.

People put fat radials to run 10s like M/T 305r17 on new Camaros. This orange zl1 does it on what looks like shaved 255s lol. And runs 9s.

Both cars have dynomax ultra flow mufflers. The mufflers being at the back of the car in the corvette make it sound different.
