Stock RB20 makes 400+ hp with top mount turbo upgrade!!!

Customer brought us his R32 Skyline wanting to make around 400whp.
In this video we show you some of the process of removing the old stock parts and installing new manifold, turbo, catch can, fuel pump, injectors and 5 lug conversion.

My brother had an HR31 coupe with the redtop rb20det, silvertop wiring and sensors, Garrett gt3040r, tomei forged pistons and cams, GTR rods and crank (rb24 stroker) and a 6 boost manifold and apexi bov. Still one of the most insane sounds ever, just wish he kept it as now with the new tech plus e85 on the pump it would have been nutty. Absolutely destroyed my r34 with stage 1 mods.

Nice choice for your exausht manifold an Australian 6boost and a hypertune plenum would also be a good addition 👍

Waste on intake manifold you don't see those bebenifits unless your hitting way higher boosts levels the stock one is more than enough for 500hp plus

@xgrapher true as bro but when you want some extra it's worth the price and but 400Hp is a respectable street car and a fun daily. I have had my 180SX for 23yrs and it's been my daily look after it and do it right and the results will be enjoyed.

Beautiful, big fan of the rb20det, its my second favourite engine after my Italian 2.0 litre straight 5 turbo making 340bhp to the wheels.

Man, I'm so glad I found your channel. I'm right outside of Philly, like 45 mins from you guys. If you go to my channel you'll see my whip! - I bought an 06' G35 Coupe in 2018 with 15k miles. Bought it from some older guys collection. He had over a dozen cars, and needed room in garage for new Lexus. This car was spec'd in Texas, he was original owner, and got every performance option you could, including that RAS. Diamond Graphite over Grey Leather. The car is absolutely amazing, still had plastic and shit covered from delivery. He didn't have the dealership "detail" it before he took it. He claims they don't do it right, 🤷‍♂️....anyway, I hit a deer last year, but not bad. Replaced front clip, lights, grill. But now I'm ready to make it a go fast. And that's where you guys come in!!! Can't wait until the weather clears up, so I can take the whip out and come fir a visit. 🤙🤙

Just curious about the front bumper in GTR style, is it an OEM GTR bumper or for GTS you need an aftermarket item that would be less wide an OEM ?

Wanting to make 400whp in factory turbo position rb20 gts4, with a holset hx35 it would need a 20mm spacer, do you think a s252sxe would fit? Seems to be proven for you guys at think point, otherwise do you have any other recommendations

When you put those bigger injectors did you have to install the GTR resistor pack??? I'm wanting to upgrade the injectors on my RB20 as well but can never find a straight up answer.

They’ll run 10s with the stock intake. Ff intakes also move the power band higher and this set up has a high enough band no need for it.

Out of curiousity, how well do these motors hold this kind of power stock? I was also curious about transmission/diff any supporting mods that might be needed. I have a 1989 gtst type m that I plan on doing the same thing to. I was curious about reliability.

They will hold the power pretty well as long as you have good supporting mods and good tuning. Trans and diff will hold the power.

Rb20 box good for 320-350hp atw. Anymore and you're pushing it. Early Rb20/25 engines have oiling issues at high rpm. Upgrade to larger sump and/or install a head drain. ARP headstuds and new gaskets. Upgrade radiator. Proper tune with decent ecu. 👌 good reliable build. Rb20s love to rev so should be happy upto 7800rpm at 350-380 whp on factory internals. Rb25 with same mods should expect to see around 100hp more.

How long the gearbox and diff will last depends how you drive, if you are making 300hp+ probably and drifting probably want to upgrade the gearbox.

@@mitchelltownes6251 series 3/neo engines come with restricted oil galleries and improved crank/oil pump drivers. They're significantly more reliable at higher rpm.

What’s the lag like? I went with a highflowed one from Hypergear and it made the boost come in hard like a thousand rpm later than oem

400bhp on my 2.0 5 cyl turbo on stock internals no problem, what about about the rb20det? But for safety reasons id rather not be on the limit of what is capable. Can the rb20det make 400 stock? Always been curious.

This is a stock engine, and can hold this power level. This would be the limit in my opinion for this setup. We have another RB20 single turbo kit video coming out soon. Comes to RBs they need a oil restrictor for the head bc the oil pools up there and valves springs and retainers should also be put in aswel as bigger cams to support longer lift duration to get the best of a high RPM top end

To be fair, pretty much any RB20DET spins up to north of 1500rpm with a slight touch of the accelerator.

Well turbos need exhaust flow to get spinning so why would it make any power at or under 1000rpm on any fuckin car you goon?

not a bad entry level performance car but rb20det still has no power down low, have to rev its guts out. Probably the best build you could do to a rb20det tho, Great work!

Good job they are built to rev - having the shortest stroke of all the rb engines then isn’t it…. That just adds to the fun and drama when the turbo does kick in.

And if you have a paddle clutch and the car needs revving out for power then it goes hand in hand - the perfect combination.
