The London is going through the same trend like the Ruy Lopez did years ago and the Queens Gambit. There was a time the Evans Gambit was universally played. As Black you always faced the Kings Indian or the Najdorf Sicilian.

Aren't the openings up to some number of moves pre-determined rather than chosen by the engines? If so, the London is not necessarily the best opening for White according to Stockfish 16.

As a 1500 rated London player with 3 master wins and beating a GM, it is simply the best opening.

The London MUST be stopped! Like the Berlin, it's a cancer on chess! Anathema to all London players!! I am a very reasonable person except when it comes to playing the London, the Berlin, and sometimes the Italian game. ;)

One feels drowning in a sea of boredom, when facing these openings. It is like being forcefed sawdust.

@@krishrao2778 I think the relief here will be that after chess masters assimilate the breakthroughs Stockfish is making, forced openings will become a thing for human tournament players. Or maybe conventional openings will be banned outright at certain levels.
