9 months ago I was diagnosed with stomach cancer. I had a total gastrectomy and I'm now through it all, and cancer free. Here's my story and the important things that helped me to get through my journey.

Great blog and your spot on about finding people who have gone through it. I have found most posting are often searching for help with issues and it becomes hard to find the successes such as yourself. I have my op in two weeks and my cancer is in the same place as yours was so you are absolutely a role model.

Jimmi Clarke yes would love to see an updated video. I’m curious as to whether things settle down because you slowly remove things you like to eat and now have to eat more protein to boost energy ? or has it settled and you can now eat more or less what you want and perhaps after two years drink a little when your eating 😀

I've been searching for firsthand accounts of younger people who have dealt with this disease (I'm 41) and your videos are the first really detailed account I've come across. Thank you so much for making them and giving me a better idea of what to expect and just giving me hope overall.

Hi Aisha, I'm glad i've helped, I made these video's as, like you, I was searching for stories of hope from people who had gone through the same thing but I couldn't find it. it was 5 years ago this week for me! so be encouraged!

Can I ask where you were able to find the support groups. I've looked and haven't been able to find groups that are specific to gastric cancer. I would love to be able to connect with others and hear about their ways of coping, not only mentally, but practically in the early days after surgery and then chemo. Things to eat and excercises to help with the depleted breath and energy issues...etc. But also, mentally too!

Hi jimmi so happy i came across your videos. I have surgery scheduled for nov 10th of this year. Im pretty scared. I am only getting a proximal gastrectomy. I'll still retain half of my stomach. By chance did you lose the lower half of your esophagus? Im going to lose mine. And im curious if you have any regurgitation or reflux?
@JimmiClarkeDeeperIntoBass8 ай бұрын
Hi, yes I lost the lower half of my oesophagus, including the oesophageal sphincter. I’ve not had any regurgitation but reflux can happen at night if you lay flat. I sleep slightly upright using 3 pillows. Regurgitation has only happened a few times, that was because I ate late and didn’t prop myself up.

Hey Jimmi, it's been a couple of years since we had an update. How are you getting on? I'm coming up to my one year anniversary of my total gastrectomy - I'm a few months back into work and seeing I can slowly eat more as time passes. I still can't drink anything with my food but hopefully that'll return eventually. Hope you're keeping well, would be great to get an update with your weight, your drinking with food habit, etc!

Hey Jimmi, your videos have helped me a lot. I had my stomach removed in November and I am currently on the preventative chemo, but after 1 week I am really struggling to eat and drink, how did you get through 2 cycles? What made you know it was time to stop?
@JimmiClarkeDeeperIntoBass5 жыл бұрын
Hey Jay!! Thanks for your kind words regarding my videos. I stopped after 2 rounds for a few reasons. I was very fatigued, just really tired all the time and struggled with the chemo tablets and struggled a bit to eat. l was told the cancer was gone so I just believed it. I knew the chemo was making me ill and I just longed to feel well again. It’s wise to stick it out as long as you can but I know how horrible that part is. Good news is, once this season is over you’ll start to feel a lot better!

Hi jimmi, question for you about weight loss. Did you start out with a feeding tube? And did you loos weight while on it or did your weight loss really happen once you removed it? I’m 7 weeks post TG and am holding my weight with eating during the day and using the feeding tube overnight? I’m assuming that once the tube goes the weight loss might unstoppable?

Your story inspired me alot, I got the same cancer the chirurgian is talking of removing my full stomach that scare me more than the cancer itself , how do you deal with not being able to drink in the same times you're eating , how did you deal with the dumping syndrome and the lost of vitamins and proteins not having a stomach anymore when you have to throw up is it worst than before when you add your stomach ? Can you still eat bread ? If you know internet address for menu and what we can or can't eat after a full gastrectomy that would help me make my decision !
@JimmiClarkeDeeperIntoBass6 жыл бұрын
1badpete999 Hi! I know the thought of losing your stomach seems crazy but your body soon adjusts. I eat everything I used to eat, including bread, there’s nothing I now can’t eat, I just have smaller portions. I’ve not been sick yet so I can’t comment on that, but it’s your stomach muscles that cause you to be sick so without a stomach i doubt you’ll be sick. Dumping syndrome is ok, you just need to have some sugar and it soon passes. That only happens in the first couple of months after surgery. I’m now 6 months since my op and I feel great!! The best I’ve felt in years! You’ll be fine!

Hey, I feel good. I'm a pro at it now 🤣 I can eat everything, I still use a side plate and half portions and snack a bit during the day etc. I don't drink and eat at the same time that flushes food down a bit quick and I don't get the nutrients, and that makes me tired. But i'm in a good rhythm of life, working full time and enjoying life. I can now sleep without being propped up too!
