Stone House Renovation - Part 2: Opening a window

We are going to open three windows in the existing western wall. Here is a detailed video documenting the opening of the first window.
Also take a look at Needle Beams, a safer option when opening larger windows: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/eZiFga15zd7JiKM.html
Working with heavy stones, and opening a window is dangerous. Do not try this at home. Ask a professional to do it.

Oh my. Definitely not trying this at home! So much experience and knowledge involved in this risk assessment. It is wonderful to watch. The Jenga outtakes were hilarious and clever. Such great content.

That's a lot of work for a small window. I'm not a stone worker but that was cool.

We stonecarvers usually have the handle on the angle grinder put on the 'wrong' side, and the cap too, so that the dust blows away from the machine and the operator. At first it'll take some getting used to but once you get the hang of it, it's just much better than being in the full blast all the time, plus the machine lasts longer

Please look up ‘needle beams’ for a much safer way of doing this sort of work. They shore up the upper part of the building/wall allowing work on the lower part without risk of collapse.

I’m guessing wild fires. Puts out burning embers if they blow into the windows. And reduces heat from the fire front. They will probably be installing them in the roof ridge line too to stop embers from blowing under the tiles. Common where I am in Australia for fire protection.

Thanks for your comment, exaggerated a bit on that as we see from your comments. Didn't know you were so sensitive regarding this text. You can read it as a marker for the parts where serious risks are involved (death, injury).

Aren't sprinklers usually located in the ceiling? Or is the window supposed to be a safe exitroute just in case? Great work, and thanks for the video!
@vale.do.salgueiro

Yes there will also be some on the ceiling, but when the window breaks more air comes in, that was what we wanted to prevent.

Not draft but i think hes trying to say if the fire breaks the window the fire will get alot more air to burn bigger and hotter inside the house.@@Prah123
