I love modern tech, and I always find myself getting excited about the next big thing. But I love to spend time outdoors and I find making things myself just to be so much more satisfying. I'm only fourteen, but someday I hope to earn enough money to buy a couple acres of land close to a city, so that I could have a space with no modern tech and just pure nature.

I would love to see you make a folding stone age knife that would be amazing! Maybe with antler scales 😀

So glad I came across this channel. I love the simple joy you share, and generous sharing of these methods. I'm very much into the "native indigenous white man" area of research, esp in view of current times, as I believe it's a very little known and barely taught if at all to the upcoming generations. I'm one who believes survival and bushcraft is a very pacifying and unifying hobby that can heal all kinds of society hurts. Each culture can teach others their own unique survival skills in their own environments, and I support greatly this channel as being part of the ancient European (yes even tho you're in the US!) indigenous bushcrafting and survival skills. It's amazing how our forefathers were able to use this gear to take down the giant ice age big game of their time! I just wish here in the UK we would be permitted bow and spear hunting. It's crazy that we can go out with an air rifle which is not guaranteed at all to bring down the game like a good hit with a decent poundage bow and arrow would. We have some mixed up people making the hunting laws here!

Its purpose is for cutting not smashing. Your tool is super useful. Using the right tool for the right job is something we should learn.

I am going to try and build one . I have some antler sheds , and some Obsidian and heat treated novaculite . I will also do a leather sheath . I've been working on a hickory bow , it's all cut out. Drying , I'm excited . A great hobby.

make a modern kydex sheath if you want to EDC stone knives. seen some people do it, having a fixed blade steel knife and a stone knife side by side in kydex sheaths as those don't down down or get under you. mind you it was butchers that did this as they just liked stone and obsidian knives more for skinning and scraping.

Do you have a preference for single or double edged stone knives? It seems that double side is the default for stone knives and i was curious if there was a practical purpose over that as compared to a single.

Should make sure that people know that knapping should only be done outdoors or with a vacuum shroud. Can cause lung issues with small bits as my friend found out. Carving on bone/antler also should be done in an outdoor area with good air flow or with vacuum.

Yeah a lot of people are unfamiliar with the use of stone tools. An tend to over look the purpose on why they were made. Which was to butcher meat and process softer materials like plants

I'd love to hear your thoughts on how the corner tang knife was hafted. If hafted at all. One of my favorite theories is that it was tethered to a piece of cordage. Tied at the tang to the wrist. Any thoughts on this?

Great video. I really have no idea what I’m getting into here, but I bought a knife at an antique store ‘cuz it looked cool and the price was right. I can send you pictures if you like, but the distinguishing characteristic of the piece is that it’s a translucent amber color stone with areas that are red. Initially I thought the red was painted on, but held to the light you can see that the color runs through it. Do you happen to know what I’ve got here?

Hey Gil, my question for you is if you know or think it's possible to baton wood with a denser river stone that has been pecked...instead of using conchoidal fracturing stones like dacite or obsidian.

Chopping with a metal knife isn't a good idea either, if you want to keep a good sharp edge. Thin metal edge bends pretty easy. I'm always ready to learn and you do a good job teaching. Thanks.

So what he is sayin is that stone/obsidian knives are hard but brittle, they are very effective to a certain extent this is why Indians/caveman etc. made bigger chunks of blade attached to wood for like an axe

If you are speaking of absolute sharpness, obsidian is highly superior to steel today. Just not nearly as durable.
