Interesting. I've seen a couple videos, including from canyoneering USA and climbing expert Alpine Savvy, who clip the front two strands. They back up the knot (actually a hitch) by then clipping one of the strands leading up to the anchor. Essentially, the end product has the same function as yours, but executed differently.

Que Rich C. "That's not a stone knot, it's a marlin spike knot" 🙂 Clipping the back strands was a game changer for me. Thanks heaps.

I don’t see a difference in clipping front 2 versus back 2. As it’s clipped in the video in the final frames, if you pull the carabiner towards the wall it’s the back 2, if you pull it towards the front it’s the front 2. Clipping one of the top strands is what prevents the carabiner from being pulled through.

@@curtisa6992 Generally accepted terminology for this hitch is 1 strand at the front and 2 at the back..... Anyhoo If you clip the 2 strands (whether you call it front, back or Daryl) it cant pull through so there's no need to clip one of the top strands and less chance of stuffing up.

There is no reason for the stone knot and carabiner.
