The Stone Roses, filmed at Reading 1996, and broadcast once on WowowTV, performing "Breaking Into Heaven" at the infamous, final gig of their original lifespan. This was the last song of the main set. The first song of the set ("I Wanna Be Adored") and the last ("Driving South") were not broadcast on TV.

Aziz Ibrahim did a great job under the circumstances. No time at all to learn a load of tricky tunes, and he did ok. Also seems a decent fella from some of his KZfaq vids.

He's a top musician and played in Ian Brown's band for years when he went solo, on great albums like Unfinshed Monkey Business and Golden Greats.

How so? I've heard conflicting reports of this performance. I was lucky enough to see them play in Glasgow when they reformed. That was a helluva gig.

@@graemetalbot127 just listen to his vocals it was horrendous. If you ever get to hear the whole set his vocals just end up sounding so off that he actually stoped singing during some songs. After this gig everything just fell apart. ✌️👍✌️

@@gavinmillar461 His vocals aren't even that bad here. Certainly not worthy of the myth that there were female fans crying. The Roses have a very complicated history and breakup. They came to represent a different era than the mid 90's Oasis/Blur/ Pulp era. The music press had an agenda to finish them after JS left. Personally I think the story of this Reading performance has been exaggerated. I remember seeing him at V99 with Aziz and Inder Goldfinger in his band and it was a brilliant gig. Genuine electricity in the tent. There's no one like Ian Brown, I don't care what you say - no Ian Brown, no Stone Roses. Take that guy Chris Helme out of the Seahorses, or anyone else fronting the band and it wouldn't be the same.

@@lucasm3879 obviously man I’m 49. I was around for the stone roses I don’t need a history lesson & Ian Brown was a huge part of the band but he was also terrible at this gig & many others bro. You are only hearing a small part. What you never mentioned there as by the time of this gig. Reni had left then John left and the reason was because they couldn’t get there shit together to play live or work in the studio. As you said no Ian brown no Roses well it was the same when Reni & John left the band no Reni no Roses & no John no Roses simple. Read up on this gig & look out for peoples comments who where there.sticking the band together with a new drummer & without John Squire it wasn’t the stone roses that played it was a new lineup and a dancer!!!

@@gavinmillar461 I don’t need a history lesson either mate. I know the whole story. My point is that while I wasn’t at this gig, I’d read about it for years, heard stories about girls crying because he sounded so bad... and I watch the video and it doesn’t even sound that bad. As far as I can work out, your point is that he sounds terrible, and I disagree. The whole breakup of the band is a different issue and there’s really no point getting into a long debate about who’s fault it was in the youtube comments. I’ve read the books and heard all the stories though, and there was a growing bad vibe that started years earlier, through the recording of SC and through the subsequent world tour where IB and JS travelled on different buses. After JS left, the music press, most of whom didn’t like dealing with Brown anyway, wanted to bury the band, hence the terrible Reading reviews. By ‘96 it was Oasis/ Blur/ Pulp and after the disappointing album the knives were out. Brown didn’t sound great on a lot of gigs on the ‘95 world tour, but there was a bad vibe behind the scenes, they’d had bad album reviews and he didn’t even like singing some of the SC album, they were already growing apart when they recorded the album. His live singing wasn’t that much different in his solo career, it just suits the music he wrote better.

It was truly terrible performance and a sad end to a great band. Went for the day with a guy who was a mad keen fan and it was the first time he was going to see them. He'd waited years for the moment. Third time I'd seen them. Saw them at Oxford Poly in the early days, and it was one of the best gigs I had every been to. By the time they played this, sections of the crowd were shouting to get the girl off the stage. Both of us couldn't wait for it to end. Some bands get better in time. This band didn't.

@@thealexandrios There were supposed to be girls crying and allsorts. It doesn't even sound that bad to me. Ian Brown is a genuine icon and still doing it at 60 years old. The breakup of the Roses was complicated and convoluted. It all started with Second Coming taking about three years too long and being a dissapointment, then Reni and JS left. The music press had their knives sharpened to finish them off at this point.

@@robertmead6606 you may be right, I believe I have seen a handful of shows where he was mostly in tune, rare though…but the studio sessions were pre-auto tune. Did it just require hundreds of takes spliced together to get the album tracks?
