Dangit, I hope the battlefields are open by September-ish, because this was the year I was playing on spending three weeks visiting Civil War battlefields.

When people ask specially historians how did Jackson manage to March his men 25 miles over land throw into a pitch battle in charge? It's because he drilled and he drilled and he drilled and he trained and he trained and he trained that's how armies do things that seem impossible.

A very common sense way of solving a problem is to train for said problem 😂😂

I won't lie. I'd really like to see the names of towns on the maps. It would help to keep me oriented when you're indicating battles and troop movements. It wouldn't hurt if the names of rivers are also shown on the maps. Without these details, I don't know where things are happening exactly. Without these details, we could be looking at a map of India or China. I noticed that you briefly show the names of a few towns, but I'd like to see them throughout the video.

Nice work. Thank you for this video and all those you have uploaded in the past. I am finally retired and was hoping to be able to travel from Ohio to Gettysburg in July and later in the summer. Hoped to attend a few battle walks. Maybe I'll see you there next year.

Thank you. I can't say for sure whether they're definitely canceled for the year, but, so far, there's no word yet, and we're just one month from the battle anniversary. It doesn't look good.

Excellent animation, above any and all others on You Tube. I particularly enjoyed the person to person interactions between individual characters, etc. More place and geographic labels on the maps would have been an excellent addition. But thanks SO much for you dedicated work during trying times. Kudos!

One thing here in a good video. Since the Shenandoah and its tributaries flow north, the southern portion of the valley is called the upper valley while the area nearer its terminus at the Potomac is the lower valley. Winchester is the primary city of the LV while Staunton is the primary city of the upper valley.

I find it confusing that Jackson is presented as an incompetent general. With anywhere from 5k to 17k men (presented as militias in this vid), he occupied Banks 30k and defeated them completely. Then he drew McDowells 30k and Freemonts 15k from Richmond and elsewhere to chase him around. Brilliant from a strategic perspective. Made the valley unusable, defeated an entire army(banks) and occupied 50k from marching on Richmond with Mcclellan.
@QuantumLeapt
@QuantumLeapt 2 жыл бұрын
you wouldn't be watching this if he was incompetent, much less know his name. When/where is he presented as incompetent?
@jumpmaster82nd.
@jumpmaster82nd. 2 жыл бұрын
He wasn't anywhere near incompetent but he WAS facing Banks, Fremont and McDowell. Not exactly a trifecta of competent officers.

There a major reason why New West Virginia had there capital in Wheeling. So they can run there butts to a safe area very quickly. Huge area WV was on VA side. We our land was not highly productive farm land. Only the rich people had slaves. Election was very highly suspected. We believe in state rights not turn fed govt. Into what it is now. Mosby & McNeils rangers sure keep thousands union troop busy with few hundred. What ??? They took up planks on all bridges going into Washington DC at dust to Dawn keep Old mean Mosby out there. Asbury hell good officer himself wild but good. Jackson had God on his side he believe. That why he believe in his great surprise moves. God was on his side.

9:00 trust between slave and master is not correct in this context. Slaves don’t like or respect masters in this context. That is why masters carried guns. The better is to see the masters did not trust the slaves. Good luck on your project.

Are you absolutely certain it was John Brown's raid that stirred distrust between the slaves and the slave owners? Did you ask the slaves? Did you ask them in conditions where their honest views were freely expressed? (like in circumstances where/when they were not the property of the people you are presuming they start out "trusting" up until Ole John Brown came along). You wrote that sentence. And then said it. That is on you, Forever. You are the person who thought slaves could trust their owners!!! you did that. Congratulations.

Way to take a statement, blow it out of proportion to what was meant and act outraged so your life has meaning and you can feel accomplished. Pure narcissism. Good luck in life, a sensitive soul looking to be outraged by anything and everything will need it.
