i have noticed that i tend to try and avoid and push away intrusive thoughts with youtube or just random scrolling on my phone. yesterday, i had about a 20 min walk to anatomy lab and my phone was around 15%. i made a conscious effort to sit with my thoughts as i walked and forced myself to be present in the moment using my 5 senses as the thoughts passed on through. this is something that needs to be talked about more!!!

I’ve started doing this thing called “Worry Free Winter” where I vow to not do a compulsion or address an intrusive thought. It’s been smooth sailing for the most part but I stumble, I want to ask my partner what was the last time I reassurance sought because I don’t want him to remember it. Do I ask him or is it a compulsion do you think? Thank you for the help these past two years Nathan, I now suggest your channel to everyone I know with OCD :-)

When the intrusive thought is not a threat (thoughts) but simply a flash back / re-living of a past anxiety experience. No “thoughts”, just the anxiety feeling comes back. It’s like my brain remembered the feeling and is replaying it. Does this sort of intrusive feeling improve with ERP as well?

Hey Nathan I have been feeling down and your videos have really been helping me but there is one detail that I have been trying to find with other KZfaqrs and that’s when I have intrusive thoughts it’s kinda like magical thinking ocd but backwards in a way? Like I’m afraid I’m going to become a bad person and then when certain things happen like someone calls me evil or says something about evil people my thoughts will say “ that happened Becuase it’s a sign your going to be a bad person” but since it’s things that I can’t control that trigger it it makes me feel hopeless and scared that maybe there right. I would love to hear your intake thank you keep up the great work ❤

Pinterest, remind me of the time I was in a Thai restaurant. I was nervous about where to put my eyes. I didn’t want to look at the women working in case they thought I was a creep or racist. But it also felt just as weird to look at the other customers but I couldn’t look away either what if people think I’m racist for doing that. So I just read a fairytale on my phone.

I have a question. Few years ago, my parent did smth that I kinda disturbed about it. I felt like it was unintentional, but ever since then I cataztrophized things and become drifting apart. Few years ago become kinda hard because I ruminate a lot about it. Even tho, I see no real danger about my parent. But every little thing like touching me sometimes kinda become a thread for me. But before this I used to had religion ocd, and later the theme kinda swifting. I dont wanna feel bad about my loved oned, is ocd has smth to do in this about thinking our loved ones doing something bad to me?

Hey Nathan I heard from one of the therapist on YT that OCD is your unconscious sabotaging you to keep you safe because your emotional battery is drained due to anxiety, stress or some condition. One of his solution is to override negative thoughts with positve one's by speking to yourself gently which have helped me a lot in getting anxiety to a very low level. It seems contradictory to not giving thoughts any value. I want to know that is it effective for a longterm solution ?

I feel so weak for being so dependent on fake stories to get through my days. My whole life has been like this. This was hard to hear. I’m not even letting thoughts start at this point anymore. Constant distractions or I can’t even eat. I thought I had made a lot of progress and was letting myself be happy but I’m not so sure. Meds are evening out in system again but I’m still so reliant.

How can I connect with you personally.. If I am having too much anxiety with language and I always have a feeling that I am forgetting how to use a language in a certain way and Anything new or different from the way I have perceived the things to be triggers a lot of anxiety, how should I train my mind to think to overcome that fear and think more logically.. My anxiety is really aggravated and magnified right now.. Every sentence that someone is saying gets stuck in my head and I want to try to make sentences in a similar manner and similar tense.. That is so insane to me..

Hi Nathan something is bothering me. So after we tolerate the anxiety and move on with life, it seems like what we’re doing here is shifting focus to living life and away from the intrusive thought/anxiety. Wouldn’t the subconscious mind register this as an act of “avoidance” or “distraction” (because we’re shifting focus from intrusive thought to something else) and make the intrusive thought come back stronger?
