Mars Bar Rice Krispies Squares Recipe / Mars Bar Slice Recipe
I'm using Mars Bars, and if you live everywhere other than the USA you can easily get the same Mars Bar that I use... But if you live in the USA The same candy bar is called 'Milky Way' - however the Milky Way sold in the rest of the world is different. If you live in the USA and want to know what the rest of the world call Milky Way, buy a 'Three Musketeers'. Confused? I am too; and I'm not completely sure I got that all correct.
However - what I can tell you is this: These dessert squares are dangerous, make this Chocolate Rice Krispies squares recipe with caution. Of course we call these Mars Bar squares, but the rest of the world probably calls them Mars Bar slice.
Ingredients:
4 Mars Bars
125 mL (½ cup) butter
750 mL (3 cups) Rice Krispies
250 mL (1 cup) chocolate chips, semi-sweet
60 mL (¼ cup) butter
Method:
Melt together the Mars bars and butter stirring to mix thoroughly, then stir in the Rice Krispies coating completely.Transfer to a greased 8x8" baking dish.
Melt together the chocolate and butter for the topping, stirring until smooth, then pour it on top.
Cool in the fridge then cut into pieces and serve.

In the US, we have a chain of big box home decor stores called World Market, that also has a section of imported foodstuffs from around the world. You can usually find real Mars bars there (along with some of the interesting Japanese KitKats). I get tiny little gift-sized jars of Marmite there, too, because I use it up so slowly.

FKA - "Cost Plus" - good idea to change out the branding! LOL! Yes, World Market was where I had an Aerobar for the first time. I also once had this prepackaged mushroom ravioli from Europe that was on clearance for 99 cents and was incredibly tasty and is gone forever! LOL! If you life in Los Angeles, try finding a local, independent British import store and patronize those poor folks! They have all the candy and pillows with the Queen's living face on it.

These look like the Mars bar version of one of my favorite candy type things, that I've always known as Snickers squares. Cook up peanut butter, sugar, and golden syrup to a kind of peanut caramel situation, stir in cornflakes, top with melted chocolate. 1:51 Glen: confused? Me: I was already confused. I'm American and grew up not just in the US, but in the Middle East too. A lot of candy changed during my time going back and forth between countries in the early 00's, and I'm STILL ticked off that I can't get a mars bar or a bounty. Almond joy really isn't the same, it's too sweet 😭. I actually have a memory of being all excited with my candy stash from Halloween or something, opening the mars bar, and being udderly bewildered because it was so completely different from what I expected. I remember trying to explain it to my older brother and him telling me that they're different things in different countries. I almost wanted to cry, because it was my favorite candy bar at that point. I might still hold a little resentment over US mars bars....

When it became clear the US Mars bar (with almonds, caramel and nougat) was going away, I made a point to save a few. When the Almond Snickers showed up I compared them and found the Almond Snickers entirely too sweet by comparison. (Even more confusing? I'm old enough to remember the older US Mars bar that was two bars of marshmallow with a roasted almond each, enrobed in milk chocolate. Those who remember ? Elmer's candies makes a Heavenly Hash marshmallow/almond candy in both dark and milk chocolates. The almonds aren't always as fresh as they should be, but I sometimes wonder if those are from last year's stock.)

in the UK in the late 1970's and 80 these were the things to have! To make they even cheaper replace the butter in the base with Margarine ( Preferably contains partially hydrogenated vegetable oils, animal fats or for that true experience Hydrogenated de-odorized marine oils ) and chocolate flavoured cake covering for the top. For the cake covering think "prepared cheese product" compared to cheese and you have the right idea. I never had a whole mars bar to myself when i was a kid they were bought for this recipe! A mars bar could be used to give a family of 4 a treat!

I'm in my sixties and really don't look at the candy bar section much anymore but I remember getting Milky Way bars here in Toronto. I'm not sure the last time I saw one but I know that we at least did have them at one point in time.

Wow. I didn't realize that candy bars made by the same company were different in different countries. I don't buy much candy, so I didn't even know that Mars bars are not available here in the USA anymore.

I need Glen to make the old-timey Scotcheroos to see how he likes them! So darn good.

I make these for any event that I'm having at home. The recipe came from Australian Weekly magazine and they are amazing. I've also made them for my sister in the States and used Milky Way Bars and they came out great.

So I learned from this video that when Canadians say, "Stop! Don't make these!" it mean you should definitely make them. Thanks for clearing up the confusion. So since I live in the US, I'm going to get some Milky Way bars, which are Mars bars and not 3 Musketeers bars.

i just made these for the first time. These things are just so damned sinfully good. i think for my next batch, I'll use 1 cup chocolate chips and ¼ cup peanut butter for the topping. Having a chocolate peanut butter fudge as the topping instead of the chocolate ganache should elevate these to an even higher level.

It it fascinating to hear about the different brands in the US vs the rest of the world. Here in South Africa we often diverge from the rest of the world in weird ways too! While it is possible to find Mars Bars in SA, we also have a local version called a Bar One, made by Nestlé. It is far more popular and has variations like Bar One ice cream, ice cream sauce, cereal, etc.

Made this today. Honestly, I personally like regular rice crispie treats far better. These taste almost exactly like a kit-kat bar to me. They are good, but not next-level for me over my long-time favorite (regular marshmallow rice crispie bars). I think next attempt would have to incorporate peanut butter and or marshmallows, or a different candy bar (used 4 USA Milky Ways). Not knocking your video though, I love you guys!

Awesome decadent recipe. Thanks for sharing! My mother always flattened the mix for rice crisp treats on wax paper. Much easier in my opinion vs a pan.

When I was young, I was completely hooked on a chocolate and rice krispies bar it was called a TV Bar and I could pack them in 20 at a time but lucky for me I was still growing fast +- 13 - 18 years old so I could burn the energy off very fast. If I try that today I will be 400 Lbs.

Reminds me a little bit of Snickersrutor (Snickers Squares). Basically syrup, sugar, cornflakes and a ton of peanut butter in a pan with dark chocolate settled on top.

In Italy we usually put the mixture in a bundt pan and we rarely glaze it with the chocolate on top, once out of the pan. It's something more than often present at kids' parties.

Might be interesting with peanut butter chips instead of chocolate on top. Years ago, I came across an old cookbook in a used bookstore. There was a recipe for Milky Way Cake. It said to use four Milky Way Bars. I wondered how many Milky Way bars as the ounces then is different than now. I guessed and it came out tasting like a caramel cake (good), but the texture was dense.

I made this at Christmas for an event. I wanted individual servings so I plopped a spoonful of the mix into mini muffin liners and then drizzled the chocolate coating. A few chocolate sprinkles and a couple of candy eyes added to the top. I called them "Dirty Snowmen"
