Stop Drifting and Losing Anchors - Fishing Tips

Күн бұрынThis video shows how to properly anchor on a reef without losing your anchor. The key is using a sand anchor with a chain length equal to your boat's length, along with a trip system made from thin wire (not zip ties) to allow the anchor to break free when leaving. I explain why short chain causes drifting, and how to retrieve the anchor using an anchor ball/yanker. Tips are given for avoiding anchor loss, drifting, and dangers of speeding off while anchored.

Great video. The Alderney ring/ball is pretty dangerous IMO. I wouldn’t recommend them.

I used to bolt the chain to the top of my sand anchor, then zip tie it to the bottom of the shaft like you demonstrated. But i found the blades of the sand anchor werent able to freely move past the shaft (the chain blocked it moving on one side). So this then meant setting the anchor in sand only worked only sometimes as the blades werent digging in if it laid on the sand with the chain obstructing the blades. Have you experienced this?

Sorry I haven't had that problem. Maybe try a different size chain or give the chain a little slack between the bolted on and tied ends. Hope this helps, Good luck mate.

Don't know what kind of conditions you Assusies fish over there your bottom structure, but if it's for that sml. boat isn't kind of overkill ? by the way, thanks for your help & the Kiwis, THE HERD !

No mate with the high currents and different types of bottom this set up is perfect, anything less and the anchor would just drag along the bottom.

Thanks for the tips mate, quick question did you anchor up on the 18s and 24s on the Gold coast or use to drift or spot lock?

When I am in my own boat I anchor, and fishing in other boats we spot lock, I don't drift the close reefs. Hope this helps good luck mate.
