There is something to be said about not being hungry in the morning. People who brag about not being hungry in the morning dont realize this means you were likely not in a calories deficit the day before. If your diet is failing to create a calorie deficit, you need to make adjustments. Eating hi fat, hi calorie foods doesn't help you create a deficit either, like eggs, avocados, nuts.

Yeah I had a hard time understanding what that study was showing. It seems part of it wasn't on the screen. I do know we need insulin for protein. Since I am insulin dependent myself I have to inject roughly half as much insulin for protein as I do for non-fiber carbohydrate. For the longest time I thought I only needed to inject fot carbohydrate but that clearly is not true.

And I believe the evidence you show, Layne, about glucose and insulin not being the devil. But....I know that simple sugars can also cause me to go on a bender. For instance, I am just almost over a two-month bender that started with Great Grains Maple pecan and ended with Lucky Charms 😒 So I don't know what the mechanism is that makes me crave bowl after bowl, but it has wreaked havoc and caused me to gain 8 lbs on my small frame. The bottom line is, the more sugar you have, the more you want.

Imo, beakfast foods make it easy to get enough calories in even if you are not necessarily trying to lose weight but build muscle or maintain it, of course opting for healthier options is idea to help manage the weight better. There is a hormone called "ghrelin" that rises when you skip a meal or don't consume enough calories for your bodyweight. I find that skipping breakfast all together results in me trying to eat larger portions later on, which could result in a calorie surplus.

I do not understand how people cannot understand that if you are within a healthy weight range and are a little bit active you will not have to worry about blood sugar spiking from eating a banana or cereal or a piece of chocolate. The pancreas maintains blood glucose levels within a very narrow range. This preservation is accomplished by the opposing and balanced actions of glucagon and insulin, referred to as glucose homeostasis. Most people are paranoid about insulin when they have no understanding whatsoever Eddie is a prime example of that.

It's so frustrating. People will find a method of eating that coincidentally reduces their caloric intake and then make the non-causal conclusion that WHAT they eat is what is helping, instead of HOW MUCH they eat. ARGH! I wear a CGM and keep my carbs down because THAT'S WHAT WORKS FOR ME. For anyone else? Do your thing, whatever works for you.

Your body makes glucose naturally. I think he means the glucose that your body makes naturally in the morning is good enough and u dont need to add extra glucose from junk cereals.

Currently cutting eating 300+ grams of carbs a day. Even bowls of cereal in the early morning as quick pre-workout. Losing just fine. Tons of energy for that, family and 12 hour shifts. Should I stop eating breakfast?

If your blood sugar is high when you wake up.. that means you have unregulated diabetes.. the morning blood sugar is one of the main diagnostics for diabetes because it should be the lowest at any point when you haven't eaten for 10 hours..
@Macgee826

Actually your body gives you a blood sugar jag as soon as you wake up ,certain hormones increase giving you more elevated sugar first thing in the morning so its not always a sign of diabetes.

Funny being diabetic (type 2) a high glucose reading if you are fasting was considered bad. Interestingly I my blood sugar universally was lower than my fasting about an hour after eating breakfast. Fortunately I was able to get off all meds and my H1C has been so good that one doctor wished he had my reading. Nothing magic-diet and exercise.

Since switching to beef only keto with extremely low and most often no carbs, I am rarely hungry - even when I eat! I was eating twice a day starting at noon and the first meal kept getting later and later so I started eating once a day around 2-3 pm. Surprised how whike not being hungry, I can eat a 20 oz steak or bigger, despite never having done so in my life. Never felt better and never slept better after decades of sleep problems and attempting every sleep ‘solution’ you’ve ever heard of. 🥩

He got high blood sugar because Eddie is insulin resistant from all that fat he’s eating. It’s pretty simple honesty. Your body gets less efficient at processing carbs if you stop eating them. So Eddie is simply carbohydrate resistant. Carbs aren’t bad, he just ran away with the idea that carbs are bad.

Do you think that excessive diet coke can cause sleep issues? And does over training at the Gym cause sleep issues? I don't understand but I've been eating mostly whole foods, lifting 5 times a week, Walking an hour daily but still sleep is completely fucked up. Been 3 Weeks and couldn't get a proper sleep

Can't use the beef study as evidence as it compared beef and glucose v glucose on its own. Of course beef and glucose together would elicit a different response given there's more calories in the meal. Not sure why Layne referenced this
