If you're a portrait photographer you've likely heard the term "wrap-around light" at some point, but what exactly does that mean? Light doesn't bend, so what is it wrapping around and how?! In this video, I talk about what it is, and demonstrate how it works in practice.

Thank you for showing multiple examples and how things are changing! So many KZfaqrs do one example or have it setup already, your way is way more helpful and informative! Thank you!

I have always hated when people say light wraps around their subject. 1. Nope 2. They are not your subject. Pet peeve. But a modifier can be placed to help open shadows as the shadow side of the subject/person will see the face of the modifier. It is all about angle of incidence and distance. The physics of light has been the same for many many many years. Nothing will change it. Not even that black dish thing. Very good explanation of how modifier placement and size changes the look.

We all have our pet peeves @rickjbradbury lol. To be honest there are things that are commonly said that irk me as well, but I try to remember that it’s more so just verbiage/terminology and not absolutes. I appreciate you taking the time to comment and offer your insight, thank you!

I find shadows to be very, very important (and needed) in portraiture. Shadows create shape and although we can “manipulate” the shape to look how we prefer, it’s still important. Thank you for watching and commenting.

@@AnthonyToglife Thanks for responding Anthony. If I may ask you a question regarding flash triggers on new mirrorless cameras. I have a godox ad300pro. I am planning on buying the canon R8. I have the xpro trigger for canon. Have you run into problems with triggers and getting flashes to fire on new systems? Thx for taking the time ✌️📸

To think, when I was a kid I would get it as high as I could, and then jump out at the highest point. I would definitely end up in a hospital trying to do that today hahaha. Thanks for watching @toshiba7444.
